Got a tip to share? Have a question about the hobby? Need input on parts or weapons? Have great idea for a custom figure or vehicle? Too lazy to do it, or just want to share the idea with others? All that and more goes in here.

Need some help fixing a figure. I was piecing together a custom last night and with the final twist of my screw driver the screwhole (don't know what else to call it) in the front chest piece broke off and split into about a dozen little pieces. I'd really like to salvage this, as the rest of the front piece is in perfect condition. Any ideas as to how I can fix this?

Thanks guys!

Thats a tough one.....I guess you could rebuild the area for the screw with putty or green stuff....then drill a pilot hole and screw the figure together.

Your other option would be just to glue the finished figure togethr.

What chest was it?

by ZombieGuide

I'd recommend a strong super glue.

Yeah, youre better off gluing the torso halves together. This happened to my 97' TRU Storm Shadow when I went to replace the O-ring (cheap-ass plastic). I just put a little glue on the peg and edges and then laid a text book on top of him for an hour or so. Just make sure you use a new O-ring so you dont have to worry about changing it anytime soon.

is there still enough plastic inside the torso to hook an o-ring over?

I can bring the sexy, that works for me. ;-)

Yeah, if that screwhole is shattered it will have toi be reconstructed to keep the O-ring on.

Problem seems to be neither of you bring the READING skillz. :awesome:

Pretty sure he's saying the part where the screw grips into in the front of the chest peice is what shattered....The O ring goes around the central post that's part of the back of the toros not the front.

SUperglue the split peices back together. Now, it's been close to twenty years since I've had an old school Joe apart, so I'm operating on (faulty) memory. I'm thinking that that piece is a post with enough space that you could wrap a strip of thin plastic around it. Super glue the plastic down the whole way around. You want it to wrap at least two or three times. Whatever there's room for. The plastic basically lashes the post together, to help keep it from splittling back apart.

Yeah, I see wht you are talking about. But if the post in the front chest piece is shattered and missing I would think there would be enough space for the Oring to slip through.

83 Steeler chest.

The screwhole in the front of the chest piece is pretty much gone, I think that I might be able keep an O ring on if I use a big enough one. I was thinking that I might try to make a tack for the O ring to sit in, but given that I only have the one chest piece I don't want to scres it up. Any suggestions?

Would a reconstructed screwhole be strong enough to support the pressure of a new o-ring? Is epoxy/green stuff hard enough? It seems to me green stuff might not support that kind of constant pressure.
