Variations among the same body part? or Help with a torso.

Got a tip to share? Have a question about the hobby? Need input on parts or weapons? Have great idea for a custom figure or vehicle? Too lazy to do it, or just want to share the idea with others? All that and more goes in here.

Howdy, y'all.
I just got a needed Heavy Duty v1 :heavyduty: in the mail today, providing me with the last piece for an Urban Camo Infantryman custom (as compared to the 12" African-American version).
After acquiring an Ambush, and having to choose between using :ambush: 's torso or :snakeeyes2: 's, I learned that while SE v2's torso could easily support Downtown's arms, Ambush v1's had difficulty any time a head was introduced (including Ambush's own).
Getting HD in the mail today, I decided to test the Heavy Duty head on both torsoes. The neckball seemed too big for the SE v2 torso, but fit perfectly with the Ambush torso. Upon adding the Downtown arms, Ambush's torso with Heavy Duty's head fit together snugly with the right arm only, but would not close completely when both arms were added.

Is there a later version of the Ambush torso (Ambushes v2-3, Sidetrack v1) or the Downtown arms (NF Short-Fuze v3) that would interact better with one another? Or is there some technique I should try to get the left arm to better interact with the Ambush torso?

P.S.: Keep in mind that I don't own a Dremel, nor have I ever used a power tool.

Buy a Dremel...learn to use it...love it...

other option is to take some sandpaper, or a small, fine file and smooth down the areas that are causing binding...either on the inside of the shoulder socket in the torso...or on the shoulders them selves on the arms.

Basicly there isn't a really easy way to do it and you just have to find where the problem is, remove it and keep trying till you get the fit and motion you want.

Ditto to what Nova said. Also if you sand too much and the limbs become a bit too loose, add a bit of Sculpey or scotch tape to tighten the joint.

I was able to both file it down (with a nail file) and use a screwdriver to score the hole wider. I also sanded down the inner shoulder ball (which rubs against the torso connection) a bit. The arms and torso fit and only have a minimal (almost unseen) amount of give when the arm is moved.

So now Broadway has been constructed. I need to commission a painter for his shirt.
A while back, someone offered to match the pattern of the 12" Urban Infantry Camo figure from 1999-2000. I've since lost the post and can't remember which customizer offered to paint this portion (namely, the torso and arms). The jeans I should be able to paint myself, but will ask for help if it doesn't seem like I can handle the level of detail I have in mind.
