Ok, so I am painting some boots for my JCW guy, and I dont like the way they look. So do I need to apply paint thinner to strip the paint? What do you guys do?

by White Line Nightmare

What kind of paint did you use?

If it's acrylic, most of the paint should come off with hot water and scrubbing. A standard scrub brush and Lava soap usually get the job done, though there might be a few nooks and crannies where it'll stay.

After that, I'd mask off the rest of the figure with painter's tape, apply a primer, and repaint.

I always use some Oops on my figures if I screw up the paint. It will get most of the acylic paint off and then just take a tooth pic or something small and clean out the paint that may get trapped in a small space. Also have to back White Line Nightmare about the priming after you get the old paint off.

Yeah I'm going with the other guys on this, you gotta prime, I went out and bought a can of testors gray primer, just a ligh coat, nothing heavy.

I've been working on a new custom with the primer on and the painting is going like a dream, also dipping the figure in some boiling soapy water. Removes any oils/dirt from the plastic, I usually sand lightly before the rinse and then I dry the parts and prepare to customize.

Cool, thanks fellas. I used primer when I first painted them, but again I just didn't like the way they looked. yeah it is Acryl paint, so off to strip the paint.
