Joey, do you like films about Gladiators?

Got a tip to share? Have a question about the hobby? Need input on parts or weapons? Have great idea for a custom figure or vehicle? Too lazy to do it, or just want to share the idea with others? All that and more goes in here.

Was in the Dollar Tree today looking around -- I haven't been there for months since I can never find any decent Chap Mei figs there anymore. But I saw these 5 1/2-inch "Gladiator" figs on the pegs -- notice their shields?

So I figured these were small enough on these dudes that they should be just about perfect scale for a 1:18 Spartan:

So despite feeling really, really odd buying three rather homo-rific figures from the cute teenager at the checkout, I came away with three decent Spartan shields for $3. The rest of the parts are worthless, but the shield's cool (have to mod a handle on the underside for the Joes to hold it, though.

Just thought I'd share - folks seem to be on a "300" kick lately :D

What about the helmets?
Overall they look pretty cool.

Here, John - you be the judge :P

They're in 2 pieces - split down the middle so you can put them on/take them off. They're actually not bad looks-wise. I guess a little shrinkage and these could be great.

You want me to send you a set of this stuff so you can work your magic, or do you have better source material for your Spartans?

That about sums it up

Great shields though. I may have to snag one of those.

by gijoey

I've seen these before and the shields are the only good about them ( unless your working in the five inch scale).
for a dollar you do get a good shield though.

I wouldn't mind shrinking the heads. As for the rest I'm pretty happy with my scratch built stuff (you can see in the critique section).

Not to worry Chief, I'm sure she was more focused on the thought, "Wow, this dude's older than dirt, and he's buying toys!" more than the homo-rificness of it.

This gives me an excuse to poke around Dollar Tree now--one or two of those shields might work well with my fantasy customs. And I could turn those figures into the "Big Brawler's 'It's Raining Men!' Dance Revue", I'm think---um, never mind. :shifty:

Great figs, and with a little paint, you can have "Joey, have you ever seen a grown man naked?" figures!

Now that just leaves the Turkish Prison. :rotfl:

That is quite potentially the gayest toy I have EVER seen, surpassing even He-Man...

I did think about buying some (I shamefully admit) when I was in one of the many local dollar stores last week. I decided the swords would be way too big for use as would the helmets.

Obviously someone thought that the Getup in 300 wasn't enough gay for us so they made these figures.

hm. i know you're rather new around here, so you probably weren't aware that we don't use the word 'gay' as an adjective around here -- we use 'taliesin crow'

by Chief

Yeah, "Gay" is a verb around here. Kinda like "Fanny Pack"......:shifty:

Well, as Stephen King said in his book on writing "The adverb is not your friend"
