Only customizing RAH

Got a tip to share? Have a question about the hobby? Need input on parts or weapons? Have great idea for a custom figure or vehicle? Too lazy to do it, or just want to share the idea with others? All that and more goes in here.

You know, I sat down and started looking over my small collection of 25th figures and I just didn't feel the same desire to customize that I felt when I was nine and Footloose's thumbs were broken. Maybe it's because they already have the little details or because they just don't seem to fit with my RAH stuff (exceptions like Storm Shadow, Snake Eyes, Zartan, and the Baroness do apply, and I even like Destro because his height is intimidating and I always pictured him as tall)

I can look at the 2001 collectors two pack Gung Ho torso and a set of random arms...look at a bearded bbi fig and see a custom Clutch, yet the burning desire to mix and match the 25th collection just isn't there. It's like they made it too easy with all the interchangable webgear, the pop off heads, the extra articulation. Adding these things to RAH figures is why I started doing this in the first place.

I've resolved to only customize and collect RAH (which is going to get expensive now that Hasbro in it's infinite Wisdom stopped making RAH), wondering if anyone else feels the same or if I'm reacting badly?

I'm pretty much that way--RAH and new sculpt only, with the emphasis mostly on new sculpt (2002-2006). 25A is simply too disjointed and oddly-shaped to work for my tastes and I've got tons of the older stuff to work with, so I save money there. I've only done one 25A figure--an amalgam of Snake-Eyes and Baroness parts, with a Teen Titans Robin head added in--though you'd be hard-pressed to recognize it now (still not completely finished) and will probably be the only one I do to use that many 25A parts.

As it stands I'm even shifting away from RAH again (especially with females) to focus solely on new sculpt. Just something about it appeals more to me than either of the other two types right now.

Your probably not to familiar with my stuff, but 90% of it is ARAH. I love the dimensions and simple but effective articulation.
I don't really have an interest in the 25th stuff, they're just to scrawny and just don't blend with the hundreds of ARAH I already have.
There are a few customizers here that stay in the older lines, but less and less are posting their stuff :-(

So welcome to the ranks of the proud and few.

Well if I ever get my Camera/Scandisk drive working right (one or the other is always giving me hell) I have a Clutch Custom and I'm working on a Zandar Custom. It's going to be all RAH for me, maybe I'm just too nostalgic about my Joes.

Nice to know some other people on here have the same attitude.

Meh. Resolutions like this don't really serve the collection, imho. *Each and every* figure should be inspected for its own qualities to see if it's worth using in a custom. Ruling it out beforehand simply because it comes from a particular line whose current stuff doesn't appeal to you will only ensure that you miss some great parts. You can look to my Zartan fig to see that mixing great parts regardless of their origin will get you the best payoff, at least in my obviously biased opinion.

Here here. Every once in a while Jimbo is the voice of reason.

I would disagree. Sometimes people like being cranky, and they enjoy that. I say this because I'm that way. :) I don't collect ANY ARAH post 87. Am I missing something? Maybe. Does it make me happier to be cranky that way and say "I'm not gonna bother with it?" Yeah.

My only concern is you guys skipping 25th anni stuff could get bitten in the butt if you wanna snag some later, could be tough.

I can sort of relate, as I don't feel like going to work on my 25ths. But I suspect I would feel otherwise if I had a pile of extra 25ths.

In terms of customizing, I stick to RAH only. No new sculpt, no 25ths, just the old figures and everything else I can imagine being useful on a custom. And I can imagine a lot.
How ever, I support with a passion those who customize new sculpt and 25ths as well. I love seing other's work, and I don't care what it's made of. Can you mix 25ths and RAH, then that is really cool!
It's just that my fodder bin only consist of RAH parts.

I stick to almost completely RAH as a base, but I add pieces from wherever I can find, be it new sculpt, bbi, chap mei, you name it. For me, 25th stuff is too expensive to customize and too hard to find here, so I stick with what I have, and what I like the most.

Well, now that's an issue of comparing rotten apples and oranges. 'What makes you happy as a customizer' ain't necessarily the same as 'that which serves the custom fully', if you catch my drift.

In all honesty, I gotta say I fall into the first category as well, since I rarely take the time and effort to do the best paintjob I could do. :-/
