xpf-14 skystriker wings closed (with dropped landing gear)

Got a tip to share? Have a question about the hobby? Need input on parts or weapons? Have great idea for a custom figure or vehicle? Too lazy to do it, or just want to share the idea with others? All that and more goes in here.

hi all..

was wondering if anyone can tell me how to display the skystriker with it's landing gear down but the wings closed. Current standard skystriker takes up so much space because the wings opens up to the max with the gear down.

thanks

You'd have to break it.

Try this, paint some children's building blocks black. Close the wings and support the plane on the little blocks of wood positioned in each of the landing gear locations.

I'd always have mine on the shelf with the wings in closed position sitting on the missiles. I know not totally realistic but when your the only one looking at it, it works. That or get some fishing thread and have it in flight off of the ceiling.

If I remember correctly from back in the day when my brother did this to ours, so we could dog fight realistically without the gear down you will need to take it apart. There are some gears that open the wings when you drop the landing gear, but if you remove the center gear (don't quote me, as I don't remember if there is a center gear) that should work for you. I know one of the Skystrikers I have we cut or melted the teeth of the wings, but the wings don't open at the same rate on that one. You have to open one and then the other. If you remove a gear, you can replace it when you want it back to normal. If you are careful on taking it apart you can see how everything works and pick the right gear to remove. I haven't taken one apart in a long time, but have done this before and have five that I have done this too. Good luck if you try it.

I may be wrong but if you take the central piece you are out of landing gear at least with the capability of pulling them down all at once probably you can still pull them down by end. That center piece also controls the landing gear. Each landing gear top section enters the central controlling section so that when you slide front and back it will close and open. So if you remove it you loose this ability and maybe (not sure) the landing gears can't hold themselves open.

You are right. I had to take one part after reading what you are saying. I don't know why I remember a gear that controlled the wing seprate from the landing gear, but there is no gear like that. Anyway, if you want to fix the wings for space or like I have a few of my birds I have the way you need to do it right here:

If you want a temp fix to just display and be able to go back the way it was, I would suggest repositioning the wings. What you have to do is lower the landing gear as you will not be able to take it apart without doing this step, then remove the screws watch out for the clips that hold the rear section together. Once you finish then you can remove the top from the bottom. Make sure you have the plane sitting on something where the landing gear don't touch the ground or the next step with be a mess. Now you have the top off you can remove the center piece that holds the wings and landing gear slide together, then all you need to is remove the wings and reposition them, then reassemble. Word of caution if you do this, make sure you don't retracked the landing gear or you will most likely break the wings or something else. When you are ready for it to be back to the way it was, just repeat the steps and position the wings back.

If you don't mind it not ever being the same again, use the steps to open up from above and remove the teeth from the wings or landing gear slider. This way you can open the wings whenever you would like. Also no need to worry about someone retracking the landing gear as above.

Hope that help out anyone looking to gain some space on displaying this bird.
