Hi all - for my first ever customization job, I wanted to start with a simple repaint of the Elite Operations F-18 Hornet jet.

The jet is currently painted black/grey camo colors. I want to paint it a solid color, and apply some repro Skystriker decals.

I'm leaning towards using the Krylon Fusion paint, but I've never seen a "flat" white color in the various stores I've been to. What does the "satin" white finish look like? Has anybody used the "river rock" grey? Is that a reasonable facsimilie for aviation grey? Thanks.

GO to Walmart...Buy Krylon Flat White spray paint.

Don't worry about "Fusion" It's not really designed for the plastics used in figures or Vehicles and simply costs more.

As long as you do a decent prep job, Dissassemble the Vehicle, Wash the surfaces to be painted with dish soap and water, rinse well and hang them for painting. It really shouldn't matter what brand or type of spray paint you choose to use. Going from such dark to Lighter colors, you may need to spray down a coat of a grey primer, then the white top coat.

nova - thanks for the suggestions.

Can you please describe the "hanging" technique for painting?

I generaly use an old Wire coat hanger, and or some fishing line. Use that to hang the various parts of what you're painting. hook it in a tree, spray on a few coats. Repeat for various other parts...or even better, have them all hung and spray them at the same time.

that way you don't leave spray marks on the grass or concrete...or ahve to deal with painting your parts onto newspaper, or waiting for one side to dry before you can paint the others side.

I have used the Fusion Satin White and find that it gives a finish that's fairly close to factory paint. Its not too glossy and not completely flat and I like it. Though you want to make sure you shake it up well.
