Howdy, y'all. This is an update to a thread I started back in January, during my quest to locate paint mixes for specific Hasbro-made mold and paint colors. This thread is meant to help anyone who wants their customs to blend in with other rank-and-file Joes and Cobras. Like with the wiki article, I'm trying to match these colors mainly using cheaper, easily found paints such as Apple Barrel and Delta Ceramcoat. Because I did find a few of the colors I was looking for, let me start by listing off the ones I have found. Aero-Viper Teal (near match to 's flight suit)
Other colors that I am looking for include
Crimson Guard ... "Crimson" Also, if anyone is offering to share paint with others, I still would like to get Apple Barrel's Cinnamon Apple, and Medium Flesh. Thank you for your patience. -- Cybertronian. |

Bumping this thread up some. Also, I need to find "Slaughter's Marauders Blue". This same shade of blue is used on Cobra Commander v1 and Snake-Eyes v4. "Steel Brigade Green 1" (nearly the same as TF Duke's shirt and backpack) is also proving to be elusive. |

We'll be hitting Michael's and Jo-Ann Fabrics tomorrow afternoon, so I'll look and see if I can find your two paints. Oh, and awesome work on the mixing. That must have been exhaustive. |

Thanks. I have about 3 comic backing boards I turned into makeshift palettes, taking the dried samples on toothpicks and placing them next to a Joe or two I was trying to match. I will say that in most cases, painted details seem easier to match than molded colors due to an unknown amount of plastic degrading after 15-25 years. Since I just got a swivel-armed , I learned by a fluke that his blue matched Snake-Eyes v4 and my SM Spirit and Barbecue. (I wonder what Hasbro or Pantome color he is?) |

Hey Cyber, Just came back from both places, and this is what I discovered. Jo-Ann fabrics only sells Folk Art, Ceramcoat, their own brand of colors. Didn't see anything even remotely in the color scheme you're looking for. Michael's on the other hand did carry Apple Barrel. What I found out is that they either no longer carry Cinnamon Apple, or they have done what Folk Art does occasionally, rename the color to something else to try another way of selling. What I did find was: Apple Barrel: Red Apple Delta Creative Ceramcoat: Medium Flesh Without the actual PLAID numbers, it was hard to track down the ones you want, but from what I am finding (at least locally here in FL) one or both might be discontinued, but only in our area. If you shoot me your addy, you can try these two out free of charge of course and with my compliments. See if they may be applicable. |

Thanks for the help. I just looked up the Plaid numbers you mentioned. Cinnamon Apple's number is 20765. Medium Flesh's number is 20556. I also see the number of 2 other colors that interest me. Crimson (20533) and Midnight Blue (20549). Crimson I think is still being sold at Wal-Mart, and with some luck, I'll be able to pick it up. Midnight Blue was suggested to me by Doc Rob. I hadn't found it but was able to make a completely different Cobra Blue (matched to my Cobra Officer, Viper, and Tele-Viper). http://www.plaidonline.com/articleImages/ab_ref.jpg <-- This sheet shows everything but the MSI ("Michael's") colors. I'll PM you my address. -- . |

I'm going to have to copy your new additions to my list. I've whipped up a few batches but half the time forget to write them down and lately my matches seem to be coming close, instead of as exact as they used to be. I have come up with some offbeat colors, such as Doll Flesh, which very much resembles the skin color of 12" Joe and similar figures from the 1970s, but that's about it. Midnight Blue was a Folk Art color but I've noticed at least locally that Michael's no longer has it. And I'm sorely missing Cinnamon Apple--I haven't found an analogous color in any brand yet, and it's a heavily used color in my mixes. I've come close to emulating it but not enough to match yet. |

I've recently acquired Cinnamon Apple and (Delta Ceramcote) Medium Flesh through an auction (along with 46 other 2 oz. paints ... HELP!). Awhile back I think I found the Cobra Commander/Snake-Eyes v4 blue... but lost the formula, along with my original formula sheet. Reprinting many of my old color match posts, but will have to remix some of the newer combinations. -- Cybertronian. |

Michael's craft store sell Apple Barrel paints. They also have their own brand made by the Apple Barrel company. |

Anyone had any luck finding matches for the 25th skintones? I've gotten close, but never spot on, though I did manage to match that weird Gung-Ho skincolor . . . . |

I only just recently got into the 25th Anniv. figures (mainly due to earlier ones being out of scale compared to ARAH and JvC/VvV figures). Other than a few Joes, most of my 25As are variants of the Cobra and Crimson Guard platform (Scar-Face, CG "Fred", Cobra Vehicle Gunner, "Viper Pilot"/Cobra, etc.) and a few movie figures (Pit Commando, the first 3 lady Joes -- both Scarletts, Cover Girl, Helix -- movie "Air-Viper", movie AVAC, and Aero-Viper). I hope to get one of the Pimp Daddy Destroes before they get (more) high-priced. It bothered me that they developed a different Crimson Guard red, but at least all of the CGs are consistent, as are the various Cobra Trooper/Officers (in spite of their cartoon, toy, or comic leanings). Although I could try to match their base/uniform colors or skin color, for now I'm content to base my color references on the 1982-2006 figures. If someone finally cooks up matches to the 2007-09 figures, please post them either in the forum, or add them to the JoeCustoms Customizing Guide. -- Cybertronian. |

You're welcome. Fair warning: My Steel Brigade Tan didn't look quite as close after using one of those Daylight "squiggly" bulbs. So I'll have to see if something better comes up. Techno-Viper Violet uses Royal Purple, not Regal. Sorry for anyone who's missed out when shopping for it. |

Howdy, y'all. I decided to go to Michael's after a doctor's appointment, and picked up a few new greens and one tannish color, hoping to make better headway in finding matches to Steel Brigade's Green #1 (for the torso & backpack) and Desert Khaki, for his pants, which aren't far off from the same shade used on Airborne v1 and Cover Girl v1's pants. I seem to have come out better than I hoped, as 2 of the colors I bought -- Apple Barrel's Light Ivy Green and Khaki -- are almost spot-on for the colors I need. Further testing will be done to see if I can come out a teensy bit closer. -- Cybertronian . P.S.: I still need a bottle of Folk Art's #506 Silver Anniversary, and can't find it in the store I go to. HELP! |
