For a while now I've had some potential motorcycle customs in the back of my mind. Today I found a Hot Wheels bike for my youngest son who has taken an interest in Nitro bikes. After close examination (playing with it), I thought I'd make for a nice Batman/Nightwing/Robin bike. Only issue is that I see no easy way to disassemble it. Has anyone customized these before or is it easier to work with the Maisto bikes that frequent Wal-Mart? Any suggestions or experiences would be appreciated. I've only customized one other vehicle, and it's still not done. Looking for some tips and motivation.

The Hotwheels bikes are not made to come apart. They're held together with rivets and pins. Pins can be pressed out, but they're a pain, especially when they're into metal. The rivets will have to be drilled out and things glued back together later. The most I've done with one of those, is custom handlebars.

The Maistos would be a lot easier to work with, but probably wouldn't give you the look you want for a Batcycle. Good luck customizing the Hotwheels bike, 'cause I think you're gonna need it.

If it ain't broke, take it apart and lose some of the pieces. Then, it'll be a custom.

I was afraid you might say that. I was thinking about cutting off the details, do my painting and glue them back on. They won't be for heavy duty play as the one I bought for my son so I think it might be ok.
