OK, so I just experimented for the first time with acrylics after having painted with enamels on plastic models since I was eight.

Holy crap, you better want that paint exactly where you put it because it sets up FAST. I could probably shoot the rest of the paint today if I wanted to, but I'm still working on a Cobra Rage AFV that's being done with enamels.

When someone said you can spray Model Masters Acryl right from the bottle, without any thinning, they weren't kidding. It even says so right on the side of the bottle. For some of the larger vehicles, I'm going to need two or three bottles of one color to get the whole thing done.

It does dry quickly. Which means when you are doing fine detailing work on eyes and mess up big style, five minutes later you are good to go at the next attempt.

I can't read the fine print on the bottle, so I had no idea it could be airbrush ready. Wish I had known that when I was using some of those Model Master paints Rob sent me to try. After using the airbrush for doing fleshtones and covering complex pieces, I prefer it than using my brushes. Things seem to last longer having been applied by the airbrush as opposed to the regular brushes.

Hadn't thought of it that way...but you're right.

Another thing I really like is that the stuff wears like iron. It's REALLY tough compared to enamels.

Not all of them. I've got a few different brands that I use, and a couple of them dry kind of soft. If I don't put a good clear coat over them, they rub off in pretty short order.

Hmmm, I usually use acrylics, but I've been reluctant to invest in an airbrush. Knowing that Model Masters are airbrush ready may get me to reconsider, sounds like a perfect solution to some issues I run into frequently.

I have the el cheapo airbrush they sell at Harbor Freight. I figure if I get good enough with it, I'll graduate to a Paasche.

My recommendation is buy the one that uses the cans of compressed air. Try it out, it's cheap and if you decide you don't like it, you're not out a lot of money.

I saw a airbrush at HobbyTownUSA for $20. Something about teaching how to do camoflage painting with it. :shifty:
