Now, I know this is going to seem like I'm stealing Tim's idea, but I actually did this last summer. I was trying to figure out a way to have a flying vehicle actually 'fly' (display) without using fishing line from the ceiling, etc., Well, the only other way is to use some type of pedestal display. Here was my solution: I found a BBI/CORPS/UNKNOWN flag base, and used a rigid 'monkey hook' (also called by other names, used to hang things on the wall,) some ball bearings (actually slingshot ammo,) and hot glue: Attachment: Base00.jpg [ 130.28 KiB | Viewed 412 times ] Attachment: Base01.jpg [ 134.18 KiB | Viewed 412 times ] Attachment: Base02.jpg [ 130.07 KiB | Viewed 412 times ] Attachment: Base03.jpg [ 126.98 KiB | Viewed 412 times ] //this base was used for my entry into the 'Ridiculously Awesome Vehicle Group Project,' which, un-coincidentally, is due TOMORROW NIGHT !! |

Bearings are for weight? |

master wrote: Bearings are for weight? correct. the base is so lightweight that anything not perfectly balanced tended to tip it over. I struggled with how to fix this for a while, and just decided to make the base as heavy as I could. I thought about things like plaster of paris or sculpy or playdoh or pebbles or something, but in the end I decided I needed metal in there. I drilled a hole for the monkey hook, and then used JB Weld 2-part epoxy to hold it in place. I then dumped in a bunch of the bearings, and to keep them in, used hot glue. |

I've done stuff like this in the past with fishing sinkers. They're cheap, and are decently heavy. |
