:verymad: So.. how many people here want to type up a bio for a custom but can't get the meaty computer that is your brain to work at full capacity? :verymad:

 I've had the word file open, I've been staring at potential source material, I've even put in my 'fight club' mix on youtube to stimulate some stuff. All I've accomplished is the urge to play me something Gundam themed (Probly doesn't help that I kept re-playing and re-watching this)

Any suggestions to breaking up this block?

Great question. For me, I look at the figure. I then put the figure around others, and I kind of imagine how they'd interact. From there, I work backward.

For me I just write. Whatever comes out, I write it. Sometimes it becomes just an "about" part of the description where all I talk about is what went into making the custom. Other times, I've written the bio from the character's perspective or from someone who would know that character. Other times its fun to imagine what a file report would say about a mission specific instance, or a psych evaluation, or a criminal record. A couple of times with well established characters, I'll just explain why I like the character.

For vehicles I list their capabilities or tell why it exists. Maybe throw in something from the driver/pilot/operator about why that vehicle is their preferred mode of transportation.

When all else fails I ask for someone to help me. Raptor is great at that sort of thing. Sometimes posting the custom and letting other people chime in can help with the direction you do or don't want to go in too.

All the time.

Toughest part with my GP #50 submissions? The write-ups.

GOD yes... I can't remember how many times I re-wrote Hotwire's bio.

This is especially tricky... being that I'm trying to come up with a bio for my reimagining/homage of/for my Create-a-Cobra. Aside from having lost the origional bio with all the technicals, there's the fact that like with my SB, I could never keep their personalities straight.... not that any of that mattered back then.

Ask your self.

Who is this character?
What is their background?
What makes them do what they do?
Are they a specialist in a particular area?

Read the original File card for inspiration. Larry Hama created the original file cards to keep all of the characters organized while writing the comics. Only by an accident did they end up at Hasbro and the execs liked the idea. When writing a file card, Keep It Simple. As Joe Friday once said "Just the facts."
