I have a couple different projects where I need to make some "soft-goods". I'd like to source some vinyl similar to vintage Star Wars capes

Also possibly some fabric that could work in making a dark trench coat

Anybody have links to some place I can order online. I'm coming up blank in local "hobby/craft type" stores

How much do you need, and in what colors? I own a graphic design company and we do heat pressed vinyl among other things. The substance is very much like the stuff those capes are made of. It requires well over 200 degrees F before it would stick to anything, so it shouldn't be an issue as far as it's original purpose vs. what you want it for.

I've never bought fabric online. I need to see and feel it in person to get the best idea of how it will bend on a figure. JoAnn Fabrics, Michaels, WalMart are sell pleather fabrics that will work for you. Unless someone gives you a direct link to a specific fabric they've personally used I wouldn't trust it enough to buy it like that. Plus locally, you can get smaller sections to work with so you don't have to buy a whole yard of the stuff if you do't need it. Once you buy some different kinds and colors, not having a plastic bin filled with all the leftover fabric will be nice.

White is my primary need for the vinyl. Enough to make 5-10 capes. Other colors and enough to experiment with for other designs

Blue, black, or purple especially if they're metallic

In fact just about any color if its metallic

So I don't need giant rolls... Reminants would be fine

It's not wide enough to do a cape in one strip, but I bought some multi-colored rolls in a pack at walmart. Basically the width of electrical tape, but white was one of the colors. Woudl require you to piece it together though, most likely.

That said, I wonder if a hardware store would have similar rolls with a greater variety of width? You'd have to remove the adhesive, but that's pretty easy if you're only making 5 or so. Harbor Freight? How about micro-mark online? Some other hobby sites focusing on electrical work?

Just brainstorming.

Jo-Ann Fabrics is a good place to start for remnants, especially those with prints or textures that are in our scale. All the fur accents on my warriors and all the lizard and snake embossed pieces are both micro and in scale, and a synthetic like nylon and the like which to me keep the entire theme in a plastic. I always hunt for remnants in everthing from natural prints, to metallics, to textured. More often than not, the remnants are on sale and the amount you get lasts for a very long time.

Same stuff I made Optimus Prime's jacket out of. Instant Vinyl from Jo-Ann's holds it together great. With super glue it just kept peeling apart.

I definitely have white, black, and navy blue. I do not have any metallic colors other than silver though. If you have a fabric store in your area, I would check there first. But if it comes down to it and you want to try heat press vinyl, PM me and we can figure something out.

if you click on the link above, it has wider rolls available, and a pretty wide range of colors too.

I think I found something that will work for the Time Being...I'm still going to have to keep my eye out for other/better options.

Fabric...we'll see if what I found works for what I want to do...It looks right...now we just have to test my domestic abilities.

Vinyl...I ended up finding a Package of "Cling Vinyl" http://www.grafixarts.com/product/Cling_Film.... It had 9 different basic colors and will at least work for my initial need...

Here's a picture of a Test I did with it this weekend...I used Orange because I don't' expect I'll need that color...

Have any old binders around? I used to cut the vinyl covers off of old three ring binders and use that for capes.
