How is the best way to attempt painting eyes? I have been painting for years but working on something in this scale is really kicking my butt. Is there any tricks of the trade that will help me out any? Thanks for any advice in advance. |

I have struggled for several years. my best advise is to paint the white first in a thin even coat. take a small artist brush and put a black dot where you want the iris/pupil. then the smallest artist brush 1-2 reflective dots. my eyes are nowhere near perfect and i'll be watching this thred to maybe learn more and better ways. I am also going to try j_mans eye stickers when they become available |

Eye stickers.....did I miss that? Sounds like the stones placed on dead men's eyes in game of thrones..... Also I have heard, but not tried, use of a fine, fine point marker for the pupils. |

I paint the eye lid first, then add the whites and then the pupil. I brush on a clear coat between steps and us another clean brush to clean up extra paint as I go. |

There are lots of different methods to paint eyes, you just have to find a method that works best for you. This is my preferred method. This was a quick demo so the results aren't the best when it's shown larger than actual size :/ 1. Paint the eye white/gloss white/light gray 2. Paint a thin black line along the top of the eye 3. Dot (needs to be round) the iris/pupil with black paint towards the top of the eye leaving a little bit of white showing below (not enough white will look surprised and too much will look passed out/dead). 4. Clean up around the eye with flesh color or use an exacto to scrape the paint away if it's a cast (I paint the eyes first). |

Sharpen a toothpick to a really fine point. Do the thin black at the top, followed by white once dry. Then do the pupils. If they look off, do the white step again until they look even. |

I also use the method daremo does. The only difference is, since I'm right handed, I always swoop to the right. Right eye first, swoop the eyebrow and eyelash to the right. Turn the head upside down. Then on the left eye, swoop to the right for the eyebrow and eyelash. I tend to get a thicker line on the inside of the face as it gradually thins towards the ears. I tried to make a video tutorial of it once, but you couldn't make out anything once I bleeped out all the cursing. daremo wrote: There are lots of different methods to paint eyes, you just have to find a method that works best for you.
