Is there a good white primer that won't ruin my soft parts? (Rereading that sentence made me LOL) I am needing to paint a bunch of spy troops (gung ho to be specific) stuff athletic gold and don't want to use gallons of it. I am going over light (white, gray and flesh color) and dark colors (brown and navy blue), so obviously I need to use a white primer first... but can I? Is there one primer that will work on both the hard and soft parts without making the soft parts sticky and ruining them?

Yes. Tamiya Fine Surface primer is the best. A little pricey, so I wouldn't use it on vehicles or large items, but it's perfect for figures and small parts.

You can also find it at Hobbytown USA and most places that carry Tamiya paints.

They also make a gray version. Again - perfect for all kinds of figures, hard or soft plastic

I have had good luck with Walmart .88 cent flat black and white. I just painted an engine that was clear rubber with the flat black. I knew there was a risk of "sticky", but I had a spare if it went bad. I also sprayed the same type rubber engine strait gold. after dr.bindy posted his success with gold I bought some (couldn't find the same brand). my first project using it was my space lord destro body and it was rubbery as well, the results were amazing.

the head is solid brass and the gold paint matched up pretty well. I just looked I used krylon cover maxx gold metallic.

Chief, thanks for the info! I will try the walmart, first, as I don't have anywhere that sells Tamiya, locally.

Thank you, my friend! I will hit Walmart tomorrow and get to it! The primer is for my Arbco "movers" btw! I got a golden yellow color today, that matches the truck, perfectly! I also tested it on the navy bodies, and flesh colored arms... it was obvious, I needed primer! :)

ps that destro is amazing...for some reason, I keep hearing Monster Magnet in my head, when I see that pic!

I used to work with a crackhead, years ago, and when that song came on the radio, he would quit working, and belt out what he thought the lyrics were, as loud as he could! We called him Crazy Jimmy. I did like the song, though.

LOL he thought the lyrics were Space Lord Mother F@$&er! and he would yell that at the top of his lungs, at commercial construction sites... hence the Crazy Jimmy. He got fired when he tested positive on a random drug test! :( It was never the same, after that... but we would all crack a smile whenever that song came on the radio!

I worked construction for years :) some res. ,but mostly comm/ind electric . you wouldn' ever believe it unless you saw/heard it one time I witnessed about a 300lb guy up in some rafters of a building singing "islands in the stream" and nailing both parts ! I lol about that for weeks.

ROTFL too much! I went to Walmart and got the paint today! I also went through all of my old paint cans, and came across a mettalic gold can, that looked exactly like the walmart cans, but had a brand above therest of the label. It is called ColorPlace interior/exterior. I have no idea where it came from or when, but i definitely plan on trying it on stuff too!
