I generally use acrylic paint on my customs. I’m a minimalist when it comes to painting. I try not to paint joints hands etc. if it can be helped. I’m currently working on a Hawk custom. I’m trying to paint a torso to match the brown arms of the ‘86 version, but the paint is coming out really dull by comparison. Not sure if it’s the brand I’m using. (I’ve never encountered this problem before.) or if I just need a glossy clear coat sealer.

Any paint and sealer recommendations would be appreciated.

Also, what’s a good technique for painting a five o’clock shadow?

Take the paint that is closest to the skin tone and mix a teeeeny bit of your bluest gray or grayish blue into it. Water it down a bit and do two thin layers.
I usually then take a tooth pick and sharpen it to the tiniest point, lightly dip it in gray paint and speckle some dots to highlight the chin and mustache area....but sometimes that can over do it.

If the brown your using just doesn't have the right shine or sheen, you can always add a few drops of clear gloss or clear satin to your color.

If it's just not vibrant enough, you can add a little "base color" to try to make it pop, but you've gotta be able to tell what hue of brown you're trying to match. But a drop or two of a vibrant red or yellow or blue can help make it match up better.

there are several ways to post pics on a forum.

i use a 3rd party host called servimg , just like photobucket except it's free and doesn't have a good editing feature. the last time i recommended it though the person couldn't make an account so it might not be valid for new accounts. there should be a bunch of free hosting sites out there though.

i recently had to use facebook to try and post pics after my computer decided to no longer recognize my camera/memory card. fb works, but the pictures "time out" after a few days and just show up as X's. that isn't good for a forum where we all go back into threds and look at older posts.

lots of people upload strait to the forum, but i never have. maybe someone can help you out if that's what you want to do. i know there are image size limits hosting here on jc so you will need to resize any pics before you upload them. my experience from other forums was that putting pics direct on the forum works, but i have lost pics that way when i used a forum as my host and the forum folded.
