I'm trying to build a bulky fig, with digitigrade legs, and I'm seriously thinking about adding another joint at the end of the foot, where it makes contact with the ground. This would basically be a gang joint for the toes. The spare joints I have to use are ball joints from a Legends class Transformer (true ball and socket joints, not spherically hinge and pin joints) or the feet off of a single carded Torch, that has some pretty stiff ankles.
Does letting the toes sit flatter to the ground sound like a good idea, or should I just leave the feet rigid, and let the existing ankle joints keep the feet on the ground?
This is tough without knowing what exactly your talking about here. From a toy perspective I've never liked toe articulation on a figure. It should be great and lead to added poses, but what you really end up with is a figure that has more trouble standing up and a foot that doesn't look natural in any pose. If you've already got ankle joints, I don't think you need toe joints too.
