anyone cast any of the new pieces, heads to be specific?

at work the other day, we were making molds for a Force 5 sailboat part, and we had some extra stuff, so we casted another piece of hardware and then a matchbox car. The car came out awesome. We didnt pull all the pieces apart, just one solid hunk of plastic came out, but with sick detail.

The next day (which was yesterday), i brought in the 25A head of our favorite Saboteur. So we casted the head. The mold wouldnt set fully until today, but we wont be back at work til thursday with the holiday and all.

So thursday I'll take out the head and make a new head or 2, see how it comes out.

Wish me luck!

I work at a boatyard. We do a lot of restoration projects, and we build small fiberglass sailboats. A couple of the guys have dabbled over the years in casting various parts for boats. There's a wealth of knowledge with the guys at the yard, from woodwork, welding, fiberglassing, detail work, sculpting, working vith various epoxies and fillers. Lots of tricks to apply to customs.

very cool. My little brother works at a metal shop in the AF whenever he gets the chance he's supposed to make me a couple of aluminum molds out of billet for doing some casting.

It's crazy how certain professions really lend themselves to the hobby.

Funny enough that this topic has come, off, im just pulling apart a 25th aniversary figure at the moment, to see how it all fits together, and waht parts i will need to cast, and in what materials...

im trying to find out how do i seperate the tor so into parts, or are they glue together?

Has anyone done this yet?

Im using a flint model to cast with, cause I want to customize his torso. I suspect I might have to get my dremmel out.

Oh I found it further down in the posted topics... chisel and a mallet... sweet, been pulling at the flint figure for hours, I bet he enjoyed it.

Ya know what works for me is to take your hobby knife and stick it into the side of the torso kind of slice into it if you can. then sort of pry it apart with a small flat head screw driver. now for non 25th heads here is a little how to that JMB over at GTG came up with http://goodtogocustoms.com/forum/index.php?topic=3963.0 . hope that helps ya my man!

So i took the head out of the mold today, and tried a few times. i didnt get it 100%, there was an air bubble (which i think was casued by the syringe i was using). Everything but the right part of the jaw came out (left as you are looking at it).

The detail came out sick though. The eyes, the outlines on the mask. it was beautiful.

I think i found a way to do it up right, but i only did this about 30 mins before i left work. So we'll see in the morning. If it still doesnt come out after another try or 2, i may just cast it again.

I'll keep you all posted wish me luck.

Success! It worked. Tried a few different ways, still air bubbles in one spot or another. Set up another batch at 4:40. I figured i'd wait to see what happened on monday, but i got too anxious. Came out real sweet. Pics to come later on

I will get nicer pics later. The detail came out real nice - those lines on the mask came out awesome, even the wrinkles in the back on the lower portion of the head. Eyes are great too. Cant wait to make more.

Little bit of crud on the left eye, and just above it on the mask. I was too impatient at work, had to see how it came out, should have let it sit a little more.
