I've been selling books and comic books on Amazon.Com for some time now, and I recently had an experience with a particular buyer that I want to warn everyone about, in case anyone is maybe thinking about selling their G.I.Joe or other comics on Amazon.
I sold a set of "Marvel Universe Handbook" comcs to a
"Jonathan Dove" in "Upper Marlboro, MD". These were mint condition books -- at the time.
I sent the books, and within days was told that the buyer wanted a refund because they "didn't have certain characters". Not long after, he said he would "keep the books". Not long after THAT, word was received ostensibly from the buyer's MOTHER that they were returning the books for a refund. I explained that a FULL refund was dependent on the condition of the books. I was assured the books were in perfect condition.
When they finally showed up, many of the pages in nearly half of the issues had been WRITTEN ON with ballpoint pen!
Moreover, attempts had been made to cover more markings with correction tape! I explained that this SEVERELY diminished the value of the books and that a full refund was impossible.
The explanation I got back was unreal. I was told that "Well, not all the pages were marked on", that the buyer had "forgotten" he'd marked on them (really? Then where'd all this correction tape come from?), and that he had a "disability" that amounted to some sort of "impulse control problem" (as if that made a difference in the condition of the books...)
The buyer ultimately accepted a severely diminished refund (it was that or nothing), but I want to warn ANYBODY who might consider selling comic books on Amazon. If this person buys from you, refund it immediately. It's not worth the bovine fertilizer, and you won't get your books back intact.
