He and I set up a trade in late September and, since I hadn't actually done anything but cash for goods transactions with him in the past, I was waiting for him to ship his end before sending mine. A couple of weeks went by with no package and no word,so I pretty much wrote him off. Then he PM'ed me to apologize for the delay (something about having moved recently) and said he hoped we could still do the trade.

When he PM'ed me again on Oct. 18 to let me know his end of the trade was going in the mail, I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt and send my end. After all, we'd had a number of successful cash transactions in the past.

Fast forward to October 29. Still no package from Suburbanator. So I PM'ed him and was told he actually hadn't put my figures in the mail until the 25th. No explanation given, but he did apologize again.

So I waited until Nov. 4 to PM him again and let him know the figures still hadn't arrived. So far he hasn't read that PM and it doesn't look like he's visited the site since Halloween.

I don't want to think he's trying to screw me on this deal and I'd feel terrible to learn something had happened to him, but with him saying he mailed his end twice now with nothing to show for it and now the vanishing act...I'm not sure what else to think.

Anyone hear from the guy recently?

This is what he posted on JoeDios a little while back (the sigs are the same, so I assume it's him):

Quote:
Greetings Phellow PhotograPhers!

I'm not going to be around much anymore, at least not for a while. I am finally one of the people that is not within the 10%. For the past year or so I have been unemployed and as of today, that is no longer the case. The reason I won't be around so much anymore is that my profession keeps me away from home for weeks at a time and I haven't got a lap top yet.
I am a freight trasportation/distibution specialist. My job is to travel country assuring freight gets to is delivery location in a safe and timely manner. It's great work, I get a sweet company vehicle and I get to travel this awesome country and Canadia on someone else's dime. It's a job I've wanted ever since I was a little kid and it's been my passion. Been doing it pretty much ever since I got out of the Marines in '96.
After I get settled in with this company, I may take a few figures out with me and get their picture in various parts of the country. When I get home I'll make sure to sure to pop in and see what's the haps on this awesome site.

In the past year or so this site and a couple others have helped me keep my sanity through out my unemployment. It got me outside in the melt-your-brain sun of Phoenix and now in the we-have-all-four-seasons weather of Portland and away from the TV or video games. Heck, I even lost some weight since my mind was occupied by the photography instead of eating out of bordom.
Sure I probably spent more money than I had on Joes because of you people, (seriously, I just wanted a small collection of Marines and SEALs and a couple of vehicles, but you guys kept upping the anty, making me want more) but it's been worth it. I'm a pretty decent artist, but I had been pretty uninspired that past few years when it comes to drawing, but getting out and taking pictures of these 3 3/4 inch tall people has really let the creative juices. You guys set a pretty high bar that I enjoy trying to reach, and your awesome compliments and comments make me want by-pass the bar I had just set for myself.
But best of all, I've met some really great people here like Frank, Scot, Russ, Norman and Dan to name a few, some of whom I've also had the privelage of meeting in real life. Hopefully with this job I'll be able to meet a few more of you.

So thank you folks for helping me keep my sanity for the past year and keep up the awesome work you've been doing and I'll post when ever I can, even it's just to comment on a great picture.

Well, looks like he was back on the board on Saturday and read the last PM I had sent him. No response, though.

I'm not sure what else to think than that he's ducking me.

Shame...I had gone a LONG time without getting screwed in a deal here. Guess I just thought we attracted a better class of person as a site.

Bumping this back up as a public service.

I know he's been back on the boards recently (just visiting) but I don't know if he's setting up trades with anyone.

Also including his real name just in case he's trading under a new username, now.

Be careful out there, guys.

Otto is a generally stand-up guy and always been timely and generous in my trades. He posted over at JoeDios that he's had some life-changing events in the past few months, not least of which is getting a job that keeps him on the road and away from home nearly all the time (driving a truck). I imagine his login times are probably from a mobile device. Maybe an email would facilitate you guys' deal?

And it seems kinda poor to use a guy's real name on the Internet. I don't know how much he owes you, but I'd keep it to usernames, myself.

Thanks for sharing.

Frankly, I'm looking out for others here by posting the real name. There's no telling if Otto's signed up with a different user name and the folks he might approach to trade should know the history.

As for our deal, Otto's been back to the board several times since ducking out on our trade and he's read the PMs I sent. If he had any intent to follow through, he would've done so by now or at least shot me a note.it's not a question of how much he owes me. It's a question of integrity.

'Allo, 'allo, 'allo...wot's all this then?

Now that I'm fianlly back on a computer where I can reply, I think I'll take a moment to defend myself.

Spin Doc (I'll do the courtesy of using your screen name), why you have not recieved your figures, I do not know. I mailed them on October 29th, 2010. Since I didn't get a tracking number, there's no way for me to know for sure where the figures are, nor can I convince you that I did indeed send them. I'd ask you to take my word for it, but I think that's probably out of the question, which is really too bad, considering I've never welched on a trade yet and I'm not about to start with a guy with whom I've a had a good trading reputation.

When I first started visitng this board and making trades, I sent Darren Howlett (or however you spell his name) $150 and haven't recieved jack from him and he dissappeared, never to be heard from again. When I starting amassing items to trade, I vowed I wouldn't be like that guy and that I'd always come through on a trade, and I always have. I have a very good trading reputation on Joe Customs, Joe Dios and YoJoe, and anyone who wants to trade with me can feel confident in doing so, knowing that I am going to come through on my end.

The irony, of course, is that I'm not going to be any trading for a while because my job takes me out on the road, away from my mail and away from a computer, so I can't keep in contact with anyone unless I've got their e-mail address or am FaceBook friends.

Sorry Spin Doc, but I wasn't trying to be devious or sneaky by signing on and not responding to your PMs. It was simply that I had been browsing from my cell phone and was unable to reply to any of your messages or any posts because my cell's browser wouldn't allow it. I'm not one of those chicken-spit A-holes who's going to welch on a deal and come back under a different user name.

Since I don't see your package in my mail as having been returned due to a wrong address or postage, I can only assume that the package has been sacrificed to the package gods somewhere between you and me. Since I am a stand up guy and always hold up my end of a deal, I will send you replacement figures from my collection as well as provide you with a tracking number so there's no confusion as to where the package is. This is not a cop-out or an admission of wrong doing on my part, this is me holding up my end of the deal. You held up your end, I'll hold up mine.

Per his post, Suburbanator made good on his end of our trade. The same two figures I was initially promised arrived on Saturday. Lucky thing for me he had extras.

Glad we could get that squared away Spin Doc.
