Yeah even back then I thought, "hmm, a turd?" I think it was not just how bad the movie handled Cobra-La but how bad the figures looked that really made Cobra-La not work. Had it been done better and the figures had been made better, there would probably be plenty of fans. But we got what we got and Golobulous will always be thought of as a turd before anything else. I hope Hasbro makes a new updated version that just totally blows anything away so we can erase the original from our minds forever.

Mr. Hankey has really been working out. Pretty buff, for a turd.

My main problem with Golobulus is just how lazy the figure is. If you look at it, you can tell that they originally must have intended to make the tail poseable (probably with a wire, like the snake that came with Coil Crusher), but cheaped out. It won't have made the figure look any better, but at least it could have been posed.

I can't help but agree. As much as I love the concept the figure is lacking.

You know, I agree with you there. In fact, I'll admit that when I was a kid and the three-pack came out, I wanted it, based on the preview images on inserts. Then I saw the package in the store and it wasn't as neat as the little postage-stamp sized images I'd seen, but still looked kind of fun. Then a friend got it, and I found out that Golobulus' Bend-eez tail wasn't bendy after all. That killed any desire I had for the the set in general and him in particular.

His tail makes him look like he has overdosed on Viagra. ;-)

So we finally found out where all of those email adverts for cialis and viagra come from: Cobra-La. Golobulus must me the test subject/model for them.

Yeah, too bad they made his tail that sturdy. The rest isn't bad. I still have plans for a custom including him + legs.

I remember buying him (or rather, the set he was part of with Nem Enforcer) pretty much just to have him--because after that I kept passing him over for play value. The upper body wasn't bad (and these days I could use it, as a customizer) but that stiff tail just ruined any play value for me. I couldn't even use him in a horror/sci-fi setting unless I jammed him into the dirt to make him stand up. :-(

Yep, he was a major phail.

The problem with Golobulus as I see it twofold.

1) The end figure looked nothing like the preview pictures (had curved tail base allowing him to stand upright). Getting this green tail that looks more like an 'adult' toy than an action figure. Total phail.

2) I was under the impression that Golobulus was a very big character. He needed a torso that was Road Pig, or even Venomous Maximus, in size. Right now I believe Nemmy and the Royal Guard torsos are bigger than his.

For those that hate Deep-Six v1's lack of articulation, without a doubt this figure is way worse.

The only good parts to use for customs are the torso and arms and even then there is modding.

Now,.. If Hasbro would only put out THIS:

we could take him off the list!

The way Hasbro loves repaints I'm shocked they never released the figure in brown with a Shipwreck head to call him Sgt. Mr. Hankey.

Yes there have been bad ideas over the years, but darn it's hard to beat the level of stink what was the Golobulous figure.

You mean to say that tail doesn't bend?? I never knew that. That's awful.

It wasn't that the movie made Golob/Cobra La bad, but they're just horribly bad ideas for GI Joe.

Anyway, on to the figure. Yeah, they cheaped out and it seems like this figure had prototype images showing an articulated tail, actually. or maybe he was an early prototype for hasbro to enter the prophylactic industry. i can't believe i typed that without a red squiggly.

Thankfully the Rocky movie line came and went, so this is easily the worst Burgess Meredith figure ever made.

It does bend, just not a lot. Definitely not enough to pose him standing upright.
