Hey guys,

Thinking about painting up my drome, how should I start? I read that dark jedi was going to put stuff in the dishwasher. I know i need to take the stickers off and remove the residue, so I guess I'm asking, whats the best way? Any tricks, caveats?

I assume to not use hot water in the dishwasher, but otherwise, thought I would ask.

ADDED WIP SHOT:

sans the photoshop sigil.

also, I've looked to no avail, but are there repro stickers for the drome?

quite sure J ruben has a TD repro sheet.

I think top shelf in the Dishwasher would be fine.

Even with that, you'll need some goo gone and paper towels to clean off the sticker residue.

Yeah, it won't fit in the industrial-sized dishwasher at work.

It's too big!

well, I'm off to WM to get some goo gone and some mad paint, :)

The dishwasher was a big hit, got rid of a lot, a lot of dirt and stuff that I didn't realized was on there.

Hit the main section with a magic eraser, fantastic.

I hate to paint a drome that is so spiffy, but I've been inspired by a buddy that would cut open MOC stuff to customize, so here we go...

updates to follow.

Yeah, just wash it by hand, warm water and dishsoap. I use paint thinner to get the goo off. And before you paint, I good primer goes a long way.

yeah, primer is a big win for me, in general.

I used fusion paint, which I've had mixed results with.

but this is just for a shelf, not for play, well, much play, lol.

Any thoughts on sealant?

If you're using spray paints...I don't think you really need a sealant....unless you want to try and add or remove some gloss to the finish

Yeah, I use Krylon too. Usually its great but I think if I have handled the part too much, either dirt or the oil from my skin will cause it to freak out. Then I have to sand it down, reprime and try again. I am going through that now.

so no on the sealant?

Hmm, I figured I'd try and seal the little rub spots where the doors close and what not, but ehhh, I"m only using this one to display my toys, it'll never get played with, :(

Its up to you....I've always figured any sealant i use is spray on....how is it any less durable than regular spray paint?

that is a good point, I just got in the habit when painting wargames figures, gives them one more layer for the oil in your hands to eat through, but I don't have to worry about grubby people touching my drome, :)

I would use a non-gloss sealent or work fixitive. Especially on doors or sliding parts

the only thing about using a sealant over spray paint is that you have one more layer of thickness that can rub.
