well.. they did mention that they would start Mixing parts between RAH and New Sculpts (as we've seen in the Atlanta and Frisco sets)

From a technical stand point, wouldn't all those new heads in the comic packs constitute new sculpt? I mean they're on RAH bodies, but they're brand new heads from the "New Sculpt" era. Couldn't that be what they're talking about when they say possible new sculpt use?

I think our terminology is making the point confusing. For a long time "new sculpt" referred to the figures with plastic rivets (shoulders, elbows), the occasionally added articulation, and in some cases, the dreaded T-crotch rather than an o-ring. From 02-06, those were "new." But now they aren't new and to call them "new sculpts" gets confusing.

While the comic pack heads are definitely not from the 82-94 era, they are meant to fit with the 82-94 style of construction. Horror Show stands as the prime example since he is made up of parts that were mostly new when he was released. Yet, he is a figure with 82-94 style construction.

The club has used some new sculpt parts in their figures, but the basic construction has always been the same with good old fashioned o-rings and metal rivets. I actually like the use of some new heads here and there when they pick ones that blend well with the old style. As Justin pointed out, they have stated that this is the format of choice. I don't think we need to be worried that they will start doing anything else any time soon.

I think as a community, it would be nice if we had some terminology that kept us from being confused. A lot of people have strayed away from saying "25th sculpt" because the 25th anniversary is over. And I agree that is a good idea. But it seems to be replaced with "Modern Era" or "modern sculpt." Imo, that is a turn for the worse because as time passes, what is "modern" is relative and the phrase will be just as outdated as "new sculpt."

But what else could we call the 3 eras?

i disagree. i am aware that 'new sculpt' is no longer the "new sculpt", but i think it succinctly defines the era of joes that was put out with that styling. i also think that ARAH or RAH or Classic represents a certain styling as well. Just so, i think that 25th represents a styling that not only is two years old, but also encompasses what's going to be released with the movie figures, at least as far as the 1:18 'expression' is measured.

and even if they don't become the 'official' terms, they are terms that most joe fans either understand, or could readily recognize by an example --

ARAH
NewSculpt
25th

just my opinion -

This lack of forward thinking is how we ended up with the postmodern art era.

If we define sculpting style by subheaders, it becomes a bit clearer:

-ARAH
-GvsC
-25th

But more than one line has been called A Real American Hero, the GI Joe versus Cobra era had a lot of different themes, and the 25th anniversary was two years, not to mention the movie figures are going to be in 25th style.

So we could define them by construction:

-Metal rivets
-Plastic rivets
-Integrated rivets

It narrows the entire aesthetic down to a single detail, but at least it is a detail that is universal across all different examples within a single sculpting style.

OR we could go by packaging, which would further break down not only the "New Sculpt" Era, but also the 25th and RAH eras (Battle Corps, Star Brigade, etc. that were "new" figures compared to the repaints used for python patrol, tiger force, etc. back in the 80's).

After all, even in the "New Sculpt" era there were 3 different lines each w/ distinct styles. The JvsC for its odd proportions, t-crotches, and SOUND ATTAAAAAAAACK! :) While the Spy Troops line came next and featured improved proportions, snap on spy accessories, gillie (which i really wish they'd still use for 25th line), and into VvsV where it went into a little all over the place as it improved their design, etc. up until the last few waves that led into the DTC days (which, from what we know, was supposed to be the figures/designs used for the rise of the robots/robots revolution lineup).

Even the 25th line has improved (diaper crotches anyone?) as it went on. It could be broken down from the elimination of the silver backs to the cartoon/comics icons in the top right corner.

I'm thinking more and more it's an Action Force/Red Shadows set which is perfectly fine with me. They'll be a welcome addition to my collection and a Red Shadow trooper will compliment the Skank Vipers well.

Now if it IS Action Force/Red Shadows, what vehicles will we get?

Dear God, I hope not.

I would not mind an Action Force set at all, and I definitely like a lot of the European vehicles, as I have several in my collection. But I sure do not want to see a RoboSkull in any way, shape, or form.

That would be nearly as bad as a New Sculpt Convention set.

Because I like "smashing the rat while it's on Scrambles head" I will point out that a number of the later Valor Vs Venom figures had the integrated shoulders...Venomous Maximus, bombstrike, Croc Master, and most everybody in the last 2 waves.
