Dearest Tristan, I thought you, or at least your large friend ("Roadblock" I believe you called him?), might be interested in learning of an encounter I've recently had whilst snorkeling off the coast of Aruba. I ran into a rather striking American there, with brilliant blonde hair and blue eyes. Strangely, he also had a full beard despite quite obviously a fan of soaking up the sun. In any event he said he was there on "vacation", which I knew was not true from a mere hour of observation. Though I do not doubt that he took enjoyment out of surfing and establishing the vacation as his cover, it was clear that he was out of place (as was I) and that there was more to his story than having fun, which he simply was not having enough of for a true vacation.

In any event, I used some of my best investigative skills (no worries love, not those skills) to determine he was formerly in the U.S. Military, and I determined his name to be Craig S. McConnel. Upon returning to my hotel, I was able to access some information on him via MI5, specifically that he had once been a member of the G.I.Joe unit.

I remember you telling me how you had some connections there before you got involved with EXCAL, and I also remember you saying that all the surviving men from that unit had been accounted for, with the rest presumed dead. Well, this might be one less dead friend, which I can only assume is of great joy to you and "Roadblock" who I realized was of much more direct association with the 'Joes' from the files I reviewed.

When I learned who my new friend really was, I set about to determine his real reasons for being in Aruba. He really was there to surf - but as you can see from the photos I am sending, I found it a bit odd that someone might surf under cover of darkness, while fully armed, no less. The next day I decided to take a gamble and confront Mr. McConnel with who I was and what I knew of him, and he came clean. Turns out he believes there to be an underwater passageway into the fortress we still today know as Cobra Island, and he has just begun a recon of this theory. He said he has a strong reason to believe that many (not just some, but "many") of his friends might have been held captive these last few years on the island, even while you all were led to believe in their deaths. I thought this was information you needed, and quite honestly I owed you one for helping to shake James off of my trail most recently.

Best Regards,
Vesper/// end transmission.

This one has been a WIP since the AT group project was first announced. I ended up picking figures I thought were better suited for that project, though there are elements of this (bridging RAH to AT) that I thought made sense. Anyway, we're going a different way with him now. Hoping Mysterious Stranger approves, though his recent diver RnR is superior to this anyway.

Really great job on this one Dennis. This is one of those figures again, that is awesome in its' simplicity! And by simple, I don't mean the work involved more the theme or essence of the character (not to get all wordy). This is a figure I would definitely like to have in my collection! Well done!

Will

It's about time you posted some new EXCAL, I was going into withdrawal. Sweet figure, excellent write up. You can almost feel like your there.

Hey thanks a lot guys. Once I posted the pics I noticed some uneven paint on the abdomen, and some uneven lines, so I've already made a couple small fixes. If anyone has any other ideas before I take final pics, speak up!

Will - agree with you on the simplicity. Really the only thing separating surfer RnR from diver RnR are the short sleeves and the bare feet (from WWE Umaga). Don't know how well the color shows up on the suit (awful close to the base grey in the pics). But it's a decent variation in person. Pics aren't the best but the head is my favorite part of the custom, giving him a tan and getting rid of the yellow hair.

TR1ER - thanks T!

Millsy - sorry to leave you hanging! I should have a write up soon for Cmndr. Tigh (though the figure was already previewed), and ditto Mr. Queen (again though there was already a preview of the figure). And I'm a logo away from having a certain dark paladin ready to post.

Oh I most definitely approve!!! Surfer Rock 'n' Roll wasn't on my list of "to-do" figures but he is now. Consider this one stolen. Just need a Silver Surfer board.

I admit I just jumped to the photos right away having not recognized the name in the subject line right off. After seeing the first picture I immediately scrolled back up and read the bio. Very very cool idea incorporating RnR into your EXCAL verse and a nice way of doing it. I think you captured Rock 'n' Roll's personality quite well and I look forward to hearing more about him and his mission.

Oh yeah, if you ever want to let him go please let me know. What? Can't hurt to ask right? :-D

Great one Dennis!
I definitely agree on the awesomeness of the simplicity.

Great figure!

Thanks guys - and MS, I'm glad you approve. I've been curious as to whether you'd like him the whole time he's been on my desk. Your diver RnR is similar and better, so I wasn't sure how noteworthy this would end up being. I'm wondering if I should modify him to not have the holster on his left thigh, so that he'd look a bit more civilian. But I think it works for his night ops look as referenced in the bio.

However, I think I'm going to change the story a bit so that he's not out surfing at night. The surfing will be his daytime activity to help establish his vacation cover. The night time ops will include a small raft and maybe some diving gear, anyway. What do you think?

The figure looks good. All the parts work together very nicely and all the small paint changes come off just enough to let us know this is a guy out in the sun, but means business. I will say you should change his board to the Marvel Universe one. It looks more like a surf board. Hell you could probably make one from scratch that looks more like a real surf board compared the the SHS version. You also could go old school and break out the MANTA wind surfboard.

Very cool Denny.
I'm not a big fan of the 25ths but I'd buy that one.

Appreciate the feedback guys.

pluv - I agree on the board. This one is kind of a stand in for now, but I don't have any other options yet. I do have some thick styrene though, and might look into the design your own.

Marcus, and Tim - thanks for the kind words. I'm glad that I was able to capture the beach look for him, with just the smaller mods I made.

Joe - I'll take that as a big compliment, since I know 25A isn't your thing.
