I plan on taking notes on this as well. I still experiment with different sealers (even tried automotive paint sealer) and get mixed results. Some work great on some figures and then do unspeakable things to another custom. I plan on writing it down this year as I've talked about it with some of you before and can't remember all the details before I get home.

Hopefully this publicity will lead to a larger head count at the picnic. ;-)

Enjoy reading!

I was floored when I saw this. SilverWynter was pretty excited as well :). After this years meet, I'd love to get a group shot of all the exclusives in action. (Milsy and Chuckles, If you have any extra sets left from previous meets it would be a good idea to bring them).

I bought a bunch because I thought it would be cool and I like the card art, but I have never played...mainly because I have no one in which to even attempt it. If you play it would be cool to learn, and maybe Aegis and I could get together in the future to play as he is my closest Joe-er.

I think it depends on 4 factors (things)- brand of paint (Apple Barrel, Testors, etc), type of paint (acrylic, enamel), type of plastic getting sealed (ARAH hard plastic vs New Sculpt soft), and Brand of Sealer (Plaid, Krylon, etc)... I've had pretty good luck with sealers, but I've learned to be consistent in my formula of doing customs:
-Apple Barrel
-Acrylic
-ARAH
-Plaid Matte

If I use a soft plastic (new sculpt, bbi accessories) I get smearing or stickyness/tackiness, with this combo.

I've also used the Krylon Sealer instead of Plaid (as it is a bear to try and find the stuff so I stock up whenI can find it) and have had mixed results... the Krylon tends to smear or make my paint run when I use it...other times it works fine...seems to work fine on Apple Barrel paints, but I've used it over Krylons spray on some vehicles with the aforementioned mixed results. I've NEVER had a problem with the Plaid brand Acrylic Sealers and I prefer the Matte as oppossed to the Gloss versions for military asthetics.
Also better to do several light coats than one heavy...though I find the Plaid pretty forgiving if your in a hurry.
I have not figured out how to paint and seal the rubbery soft plastics and not have them remain tacky so if anyone has a trick to that... I may experiment with the same formula and some corn starch powder in the future, but probably won't have time before the meet.

Here are the pictures of the hall. We had between 50 and 60 people at the party on Sunday so there's plenty of room. I don't think the pictures do the space justice, since I couldn't find the right angle to take the picture at.
This is the front of the building. You can park on the street if need be. Entrance is the door on the right, and there is additional parking in the back, accessed on the left(driveway/street)

Rest of the pics are just interior shots.

Hope they help. See you on Saturday!

Awesome! Bring em! I'd love to see whatcha got and maybe trade for a few I'd like. ;) Fortunately, it's very easy to learn and generally quick to play, so we might be able to get in a game or two. I have a couple of decent decks put together, so you wouldn't have to worry about making one yourself.

Millsy, looks great! Man, I'm glad you posted a pic of the exterior...I would have probably passed it up as a house if I missed the sign. ;)

So I finally got together something of a list of things I might be interested if anyone has them...nothing like waiting till the 11th hour, eh?

* 1984 Sharc canopy...(mine has a hinge peg broken off)
* 25th Water Mocassin (whatever it's called)
* '09 box set Shipwreck (preferably complete)
* MASS device pieces 3, 4, and 5
* MASS element containers with the elements in them (not the cubes)

I'll be bringing what little 25th fodder I have, a small mix of random ARAH/New Sculpt parts, some Sigma fodder, Corps stuff, TCG cards, and Star Trek Micro Machines (cuz you just never know). ;)

I'd like to make a last minute request.

If anyone has the following to bring to the picnic, it would be greatly appreciated.

- 2x USB game controllers - PC compatible.

If anyone has these, please let me know.

I'm bringing GIJoe : the Arcade Game! on my PC.

Matter of fact, bring 4x USB compatible controllers for this game is 4 players!

Wow!! 8-O Millsy, you hit a home run with securing this sweet space! It's better than I could have possibly imagined. This will be great!

And thanks for posting these pics on the Tri-State Vipers board. It should make finding the place easier.

BTW, dibs on one of the tables for the trivia contest! :-)

That's why I asked him to take pics of both the interior and exterior of the building. ;-)

I used acrylic Plaid paints on a Joe vehicle. Any help would be great.

Thanks for the pic of the outside as well. I'm going to Google directions right now.

I'll try to find some extra custom sets at my dad's.

Anyone else finishing up their projects for Saturday too?

I took Friday off from work...and it looks like Flint is gonna be down at my house early Friday morning, so I will enlist him to help me with my projects. lol

Just a general FYI...I just noticed on the schedule that it say's "MacGyver's Sigma Six Eye Painting Demo." It won't be limited to just Sigmas. Time permitting, I'm planning to show at least one eyeball each on a male and female Sigma as well as on a male 25th. If anyone has a 25th female they want me to demo on, I'm happy to. I just don't have a female head handy. It's not that male and female eyes are all that different, but it might be handy to see.

Millsy,

Just wanted to post this over here as well. That's a really nice hall to hold the function. Thank you for booking it and making the necessary arrangements. Look forward to finally meeting you guys there. It looks like it'll be a blast.

For anyone interested, was wondering if we can talk at some point for next year. Maybe we can formalize a PA mini-con set for the exclusives. I would gladly volunteer my time to help organize, plan and prepare customs for it.

I figure we got a year so there is loads of time to plan and get it right. I solemnly promise no Shredder debacles. LOL.

Ronin...I am DEFINATELY interested in a mini-con set, and look forward to discussing this! Towards the end of the meet we discuss about meeting up again...and what all to do at the next meet, so your idea will definately fall into this...and I am sure it will be well taken!! Thanks again for offering!!

It is great to see these meets grab on and take off like this. To all the newcomers to it...I sincerely hope you have a great time! It seems each year we grab a couple new attendees...but this year it seems we have hit the mother-load...and I can't wait for Saturday!
