$25 for three months of the enitre Marvel Catalog sounds good to me. I'd just shift focus to looking at old comics for a while to make it worth my money.

I see what you're saying about getting figs you wanted for Doc, but lets be honest. There is always one knockout in a comic pack and one dud. So really, you're paying for one fig, one for possible fodder, and the chance to pay S&H for a Doc.

I'm with Tex, though. I would have preferred an Ultimate Nick.

Except with those early comic packs, where wave 1 was like Breaker and 5 duds. Man did that ever piss me off.

At the time.
I know this won't be true for everyone, but when it was all said and done, Doc only cost me $10. For the price of the comic packs (5X $10 = $50) and the shipping and handling for 4 docs (4X$5=$20) I got 3 extra Docs that I was able to sell for $20 a piece ($60) and still got Breaker, Ripper, Torch, and some fodder to boot.

I did pretty much the same thing with the crystal skull figures, selling off all of them to get back some of the money I spent on the Indy line.

I guess you could sell your online subscription to make back the price of the figure. I just don't think you'll have any takers.

I am fine with this I won a free month subscription to the online catalog when they first opened it. If you don't mind reading comics online, It is easily worth the cost. Plus I get the real Nick Fury.

I'll be picking him up. I've been saving all the UPS codes since the line started. But I guess they're no good now? :-/

Same here. Sounds like an opportunity to reread some stuff I used to love.

I'm a little annoyed by this ploy, but only a little. I get it. Times are rough for the publishing industry in general and they got to get it where they can.

As for me, I'll buy the three month and show my son a bunch of comics online. Heck, if you can get more than one Fury for buying the year, I suppose I might just do that, too.

Is "ploy" a fair way to describe this? Tying action figures to other products has been around for years. Tying a super hero toy to a comic-related product makes a lot more sense than selling Lifeline through Kellogg's cereal. The only thing that makes this different is that now we see items at toy shows before we know how to get them, possibly even before Hasbro knows how they're going to sell them.

Yes, it makes sense, but from a personal standpoint, I don't want to have spend money to get access to comics I already spend money to own. I'm already buying Marvel product. I should be able to send in my receipts from the comic shop. The problem is, no one cares about the Marvel digital stuff, not even when they do lame stuff like teaming Eminem with Punisher.

It's too bad the deal doesn't offer us both the regular universe and the ultimate universe Nick Fury as a two pack for the deal. I'm tempted by Nick Fury but if we got both Nick Furies then it would be a can't pass up deal for me.

While I like Ultimate Fury (And especially Samuel L. Jackson's portrayal in Iron Man) I'd prefer they kept this line 616 based for now. And I LOVE the original Fury too, so I'm glad to see him show up.

I'm sure we'll get Ultimate Fury soon enough.

Why!? :-| You should know from experience by now!

Here are some better pics...

and to add injury to insult you can buy Nick Fury at TRU in Singapore for "regular" price. I assume that means the same retail as a single carded figure over there.
What does that mean then "while supplies last"? I hope they are making quite a few. :-x

Ultimate Nick Fury is sure to come out in next year's Iron Man 2 movie line. ;-)

It's a fair way to describe my initial reaction to the revelation that Fury would essentially be leverage, forcing us to buy something entirely apart from the toy line he's associated with when he was initially characterized as an exclusive way to reward faithful collectors of the line. Whether that deception was hasbro's intent or not, I still felt frustrated by it -- pretty much the definition of a ploy's effects and net outcome. I'm about as interested in being fair in the way I parse and use the term as hasbro clearly wasn't in doing collectors a solid. That actually feels pretty fair to me.

But, like I said, I'll buy the subscription. I'm less annoyed by having to do that than I am by any attempt to characterize the way Hasbro's handling this as anything but a strongarm sales tactic.

I'll wait for the repaint.

Destined to happen someday, this is a Hasbro product we're talking about afterall.

Or heck we are customizers so if it's too big of a deal for any of us we could just wait until they release some SHIELD agent figures and then make our own Nick Fury figure.

If the online comics are following the same "Dark Reign" storyline that's basically driven me away from Marvel Comics completely, then I wonder if that "Dark Reign" concept has started to cause sales to drop off, and this is Marvel's (not Hasbro's -- they're not responsible for Marvel's story content) way of trying to entice readers back. Just a thought.

This would likely be a pass for me regardless of what was going on, as I don't read comics online. When I want to read a book, I read a BOOK.

Now, where'd I put my Amish hat...? :-D ;-)
