OK, to understand this I have to give you some background. As a kid I hated the GI Joe storyline but loved the figures. So like many, I created my own story. In my universe Destro was king of most of the post apocalyptic planet Earth. One of his most powerful foes was Croc Master, who had super-human strength. To deal with this problem Destro had his brightest engineers design cybernetic systems to enhance a volunteer who would become the ultimate mecha-warrior to defeat Croc Master and his band of genetically enhanced comrades that defended Australia and many of the South Pacific Islands.
As Destro’s engineers began their task he searched the ranks of his Iron Grenadiers for a volunteer. It had to be one who possessed leadership skills and was a loyal soldier. As if put in place by fate, about the time that the engineers had designed a well functioning system, an Iron Grenadier Lieutenant was attacked by several of Croc Masters pets. In spite of the IG armor, the young Lieutenant was on the brink of death. The crocs had torn off his arms and legs and had severely maimed his remaining body. He was now a quadriplegic, but was offered a chance to become whole again. Not just whole, but super-humanly powerful, and given the opportunity for revenge. His mechanical limbs, electronic implants, and armor for his remaining humanity were made from an ultra-hard, yet light weight titanium alloy. It was even used to reinforce his remaining bone structure. He was also injected with performance-enhancing muscle amplifying chemicals to make his remaining living tissue strong and durable. He’s like something out of a comic book or movie, a “Sci-Fi” comic or movie. Therefore deemed Sci-Fi by Destro.

Interesting Bio, but a really cool looking figure.

It's a bit more work...but I think it'd be cool if you'd dremel out the Sci-Fi head and use as a helmet...a very Robo-Cop looking helmet.

The figure seems a bit silver heavy...especially for an IG...I think you could afford to break up the silver on the arms and armor with some more Black and Red

Very interesting bio indeed. Love the figure. Really like the way he came about, but I gotta agree with nova on the silver. Maybe go a little red and gold on the knee's and shoulders and even a bit at the top of the torso on those shoulder pads. Seems as if it would still give him that cyborg look with the extra added IG'ness to have him fit in more with them.

More gold, huh? I gave hims so much silver 'cause I wanted a very mechanical/android look to him. I'll see what I can do to add a lil' more gold. I do agree. He needs to look a little more "Iron Grenadier".

I'm going the opposite way. I think he needs more silver so he looks more like RoboCop. Who cares if he doesn't have the IG color scheme down. He's friggin RoboCop.

Which is exactly where I got the idea for the back story. That Sci-Fi head is a better RoboCop head than any actual Robocop figure that I've ever seen.

Interesting idea, but unless the crocs damaged his nervous system, then he'd be a multiple amputee rather be paralyzed.

I see what everyone is saying about the silver. I think if it was in black, like Robocop, we would accept it-it's the silver color itself that just seems off.

I could see adding some black, red, and gold onto the shoulder pads. Possibly alternate them so it possibly could be control panels. I'd paint the biceps black to match the legs.

It might just be the contrast between the dark of the black with the red highlights and then all that silver. When I look at the side shot, all the silver just seems to blur together to overpower the rest.

Maybe mute the red or soften the black-but I think something has to be done on the chest.

Let me look again....

OK, this is what I would do.

It's about color selection and what it is used for.

I would use black as the uniform color.

Silver would be just for the bionics.

Red would be highlights (the flash, the pop) and gold would be for the armor.

The shoulder pads I would paint gold, using black in between the components (these are the hoziontal lines). The center of the chest from neck to lower abdomen would be black. I would use red to highlight various edges and trim.

I would use silver as highlights on tiny chest sections (edges) to indicate the robotics access ports.

The head still is too identifiable as Sci-Fi, so I would either use some more black on the lower sections and silver/gold on the higher sections, with a bit of red to indicate the flash...maybe even use gold/silver to indicate a lower face mask over the mouth (like the black on a Stinger Driver or the red on a Cobra Trooper). That would indicate there is a protective device that filters the air for his lungs.

I like him this way. This is a great scheme for Sci-Fi and I might gonna use it for my ARAH Sci-Fi who really needs anything better than the bright green colours.

I was surprised by your view on G.I.Joe, but I like your take on the Joe-verse. Your the first one I know that hated the intended Joe story as a kid but liked the figures. You speak of Destro, the IG's and Croc Masters. Did the Joe figures have a different role too?
And what's the story about the purple IG?

He doesn't need a device to filter for his lungs. His lungs were fine. I think a lot of what you may have considered armor I intended to be mechanics, like his upper arms and parts of the chest/back. I wanted them silver to look mechanical. Parts of his chaest armor are intended to be mechanical to assist moving his arms. I may change some of it to gold to be more in line with IG colors. Plus, the head is supposed to look like Sci-Fi. The actual neon green Sci-Fi figure is what I used as this character when I was a kid. I wanted it to be somewhat remaniscent (sp?) of the original figure.

Yeah, everything was different with the way my friends and I played. We used the Sneak Peek figure as a line of Destro's troops because I had 2 of the figures and we thought he looked dumb. The purple IG is the one from the TRU Senior Ranking Officers Pack. I though he'd be a cool Sgt or something.

pause for slight derail// I didn't dislike the Joe story, but I found it a bit limiting with my play world, so rarely did the Joes actually act as Joes for me - they almost always were used as awesome figures as some part of a Star Wars military force, or some such thing. This may explain why I make the customs I make rather than exclusively Joes. So meandnooneelse is not the only one.

As to the custom. I like it as is. I think if you made changes to make him more IG like, you'd find yourself bored with the concept at some point. There's a reason he's different, and I think you made the right call by running with that concept.

The Iron Grenadiers was one of the three sub groups in Cobra that I liked. Dreadnoks and Headhunters are the other two. This custom looks amazaing and the backstory and bio are great. The Iron Grenadiers had a guy in all purple and orange, so why not one in Chrome, Silver and Black? The figure and story works well with in the Iron Grenadier universe with M.A.R.S. weapon R & D and Dr. Mindbender's Lab. Good job!

Fantastic back story and great custom. I really like how the parts look on him and the wash for the paint is perfect. It is always interesting to read about someone else's JoeVerse.
