Another RS character of which I know very little.

I like the half wetsuit/half trousers look of the ROC Shipwreck and thought it might be an interesting route to go on this figure.

Jamar Miller introduced me to the character and told me about it.

Apparently Red Tako had several minor appearances in the UK Action Force comic in the 80's, but there was never a figure. Jamar has reworked and enhanced the character a bit to appear in his website.

Jamar, feel free to jump in and back me up.

Yes, Red Tako is certainly an obscure character. Probably as obscure as "Gregor", one of the Cobra henchmen with the Baroness during the train attack, from GI Joe #1.

I have a Gregor custom to post one day, too.

Can never have too many faced goons if you ask me. Good job on using that gung ho torso.

I'm not totally immersed in the source material and openly admit as much. As Jamar explained to me, "Tako" is "Red Tako". I don't really see a big difference. If Jamar likes to throw "Red" in front of character names, no big deal. He knows more about these characters than I do, so I follow his lead.

Making an issue out of the name is a bit insulting, and you're originally wording seemed to imply that I had created the character and was trying to pass it off as an existing one. I do often create original characters and always acknowledge them for what they are.

If someone not totally immersed in Cobra lore posted a "Firefly" as "Cobra Firefly", I wouldn't really sweat the name. If anything, I'd still encourage the customizer without making a deal out of it.

If you don't like the figure, that's fine. If you do like, that's even better.

As far as the "official" status of the character- those comic strips Jamar has posted are Action Force cannon in the UK. Officially licensed and professionally produced, not "fan art". Tako is just as "legit" as General Austin or Billy are in the GI Joe world.

Not really surprised I didn't remember the character... he appeared and died in the same page, and he wasn't called "Red Tako".
I doubt many people remember "Rattler" and "Copperhead".
Accompanied by your comment that it's a character you knew "nothing about", made me wonder if you didn't mistake one of Jamar's fancomics/projects with some actual Action Force material.

I do like the figure, by the way.

Just not sure baggy pants are the ideal thing to wear when you're a combat diver.

Not another douche. Right Jay Jamar has not created Battle Action Force it was a fully licensed comic in the 70's and 80's in the UK basing it's stories on the Palitoy range of Action Force then later on GI Joe before Marvel UK got the licence. Visit BFTB and have a look you will see it's not fanfic.
