I've made no secret of my complete distaste for 25th Outback as we got him in the FLAK pack and the Cobra Island multi-pack. I think he looks scrawny and cartoony and just generally awkward for a guy who always looked like a mountain of man meat in a dirty t-shirt when depicted in the comics.

There's not a part of this guy that was used in the factory build of the character.

To give him the requisite height and bulk, I used the Roadblock torso. For the look of an old t-shirt stretched out by well-muscled arms, I used the Stormshadow uppers and some Shipwreck lowers. The legs were Duke's. The head was the roughest, toughest, meanest red-bearded menace I could find - an Obi Wan head from his anniversary Clone General get-up. I liked that noggin so much, I used two to give him an alternate, bandana-less look.

Anyway, here's how he turned out:

And from the back:

The flashlight and boot knife are removable:

Here's a close-up profile of the head:

And the alternate noggin for when he wants to let his hair down:

What do you guys think?

I may have to track down that Roadblock to do this same thing. Only I'll use the Hasbro head cuz it doesn't offend me too much.

I really like it. Gives him some bulk without going over the top with it. And using v.2 Roadblock for the white shirt is brilliant! Well done.

Wow.

That is leaps and bounds beyond Hasbro's attempt.
If only they put a little more thought into their parts choice, Hasbro themselves could pull off winners like this!

I dont see the hate for the Hasbro Outback, I think he looks pretty sweet. This is a decent attempt, though he looks skinnier than the real deal imo, I do like the fact he has bigger neck and traps, and I dig the arm and all but I cant say I like it anymore than the other one, but that's all personal preference.

As for the work you did, its all good craftsmanship, the survival came out really nice and all, so did the camo and such, overall good job.

How did you do the lettering on the chest?

this version beats the Hasbro offerings hands down!

it looks cool but for some reason i just can't get into that head sculpt of obi wan. i mean yeah the hair's good and the beard's...well a little short, but the facial expression is terrible.

that obi-wan head sculpt looks like an angry sped kid who dropped his pudding cup. sorry, but something about the facial expression and overly trimmed beard are the suck.

and why is Outback supposed to be brawny? b/c an 80's comic artist decided to draw him that way? i think Hasbro's is fine as it is, i mean come on if any of us lived off teh land, we'd be skinny too. unless it involved dumpster diving behind a tim horton's.

I am no fan of Hasbros, I much prefer yours. Too bad they didn't use your parts choices, I like the added bulk.

But I have never cared for that obi one head, there's one from bbi with a ball cap I think would be great, but then I have my own I really like.

That was hand-lettered using a fine-tip permanent black marker. Then I brushed some Krazy Glue over it for protection.

I'm glad a number of you dig this recipe for Outback. And I'm sure Hasbro is pleased to read that there are some fans/defenders out there for the anorexic red-headed stepchild of Chuck Norris they tried to pass off as the character.

:p

As for why I thought Stu needed to be better built, it wasn't just his comics appearance. If you look back at that first figure, he was one of the most heavily muscled in the line up to that point. Hasbro gave him guns and traps and delts that put him in Roadblock (v2) territory. So I was just trying to stay faithful to that vision.

And on the Obi Wan head, what can I say? He just looks ornery and mildly disgusted...like maybe he had to drink some of his own pee to survive. For some reason I just love it.

From the looks of things I'm the only one here :whistling: But I'm basing mine totally on Tater's review since I don't have one in hand. That might change things, but in his review it looks rad. Yours is pretty rad as well, I just feel that the legs you used are too skinny (an issue I have with most of the 25th line)

I don't know if Obi-Wan's head is a better choice, but it certainly isn't bad. The rest of the figure works much, much better then what we got.

well I'm with the lt. I like what hasbro gave us but I do think your custom is awesome besides the head I don't like the face too much. I'd use your upper body combo hasbros lower and the hasbro head but painted for better details.
But I always like your customs too... :-D

I'm gonna have to go with Pluv on the head. Its a good choice but there is something about the head throwing me off, I thin it may be the mouth area, Im not really sure. Great all around custom dude, fantastic part choices and painting, the lettering turned out great as well.
