OK here's a new tweak:

That small piece of plastic helmet just reminded me why I HATE PAINTING YELLOW. I used three brands of yellow paint (that were near perfect color matches) and none of them would give the coverage I wanted without ending up looking like a glop of bird poop.

I ended up mixing yellow with some red for that orange hue and using white asthe base since it gives better coverage than the yellow itself.

Thanks!

I'll have to try out that primer... most of the time I just hand paint directly since I don't usually paint large areas or I'm too lazy to mask out the details :-/

they do a liquid one as well as a spray, the liquid one is good but only for really small areas as it dries super quick! it's grey & one coat works wonders, but you have to use paint thinner to clean ya brushes!

Here's my take on Hit&Run. Initially I wanted to do a somewhat realistic approach and portray him as a member of the 10th Mountain Division (they used to have a light infantry role) so I gave him the 80's woodland camo and Snake Eyes' climbing rig:

All well and good... But looking at the figure, it somehow lost that Hit&Run look & feel to it. So I decided to fix the camo. It's still woodland, but this time more subdued, like an old uniform which has already been worn out in the field, and in a more yellow hue, closer to the original figure's olive green. I also gave him back his harness and backpack:

But what's with the elbow joints on this figure? The arms can't hold a thing! I tried shaving off the lower front portion of the upper arms but that didn't help :-/

Some nice looking stuff. On Wet-Suit's helmet, when I used that helmet on mine, I 'primed' the helmet with silver paint, then painted the yellow-orange over that. It gave it a nice sheen.

You did one better than me on that Wet-suit helmet. I just painted mine green to match the suit rather than hassle with matching the yellow.

This is Ripcord. I don't care what the name or the filecard text says. I don't care what the movie says. This is Ripcord.

I tried a bunch of different heads but non of them really had the proper fit and size I wanted. Ace, although a good fit, was too recognizable especially since I'd be using both Ace and Ripcord together most of the time. Blowtorch was a good fit too but is a little bit hard to find around here.

I settled on Deep Six. He also looks just like Rod Whigham's drawings of Ripcord in the early comics (before he added that curl in front when Zartan switched places with him):

This is also the first time I tried using primer (Tamiya).

First up, the Moto Viper. I just painted the uniform a lighter blue but still dark enough to blend with the RoC figures.

Image

Image

Gyro Viper. This is the red helmet variant. I painted the flotation vest and head purple and the flight suit khaki, just like the classic.

Image

Image

Leatherneck. Easy fix, turned the belt around, slice of the grenades, and superglued them in place. I chipped off the paint on v1's abdomen, and there's some superglue residue on Mission Brazil's chest.

Image

Image

Gung Ho. I just painted the mustaches to match their respective appearances (Marvel comic, Sunbow cartoon, & Resolute cartoon)

Image

Image

Cutter. I gave him a Spy Troops Recondo cap.

Image

Chuckles. I painted the pink flowers on his Aloha shirt.

It's amazing how simply extending the mustache a bit really changes the face of Gung-Ho and makes it "him." Nice.

More customs. This time I'm starting to move away from simple tweaks.

Image

First up is Dialtone. I wanted to do a pure khaki color for her just like in Resolute and the new comic series but since she's in pants, I decided to go for her brother's color pallette: khaki shirt, black pants, and green vest. Partially inspired by dltesterzfd's concept of modern Dialtone:

Next is Law. Again, I wanted a RAH homage, but was too lazy to do a RAH accurate version which almost everybody has done. (Actually, I couldn't crack open the torso and RoC Hawk is too expensive around here). Also inspired by dltesterzfd's concept art:

Image

Image

Image

Image

Next is Flash. I liked Flash in the game but the design just never screamed Flash to me. The red and black, and the mask made him look more like a Cobra operative than a Joe. And then I saw dltesterzfd's concept of Flash and instantly, I knew what to do.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Next is Footloose. Well, Footloose has always been your basic infantry trooper much like Grunt so I just gave him US woodland camo like the RAH figure and a coyote tan vest.

Image

Image

Image

Finally, Repeater. I thought Zartan's alternate head (Sandstorm's) looked more like Repeater than Serpentor's sad face so I did a head swap. I also took the SRO Sgt Stone's lower arms and swapped them to match the skintone. Finally I gave him Heavy Duty's vest because Sgt Stone's vest didn't scream repeater to me. I then gave him desert MARPAT camo.

I actually see Dialtone and Helix as being friends. Dialtone is the perky annoying girl while Helix is quiet and very reserved.

Thanks. I changed Flash to someone else:

I still have to change the head underneath that helmet to the red Lamprey's... if I can find one.
