I am still torn between whether or not to make this a Joe or Cobra vehicle. It started out Cobra but the more I looke at it it says to me "4 door VAMP". And after seeing ThMick's stinger I really want to make a Stinger out of the Komotto (sp?) vehicle. For this vehicle I maybe using a custom painted Cobra Desert Viper (I think he's called) as the driver. That is unless I make this a black Joe vehicle. With this and my Abrams/CAT project i was pretty busy this past weekend.lol

Okay first some "before" pics...

and now the tear down...

Going to make the windshield out of that Joe blister packaging.
Image

Drilled out the gun barrels and painted them aluminum to do a wash of black paint over it later.

Removed rear gear...
Image

Interior in primer grey...
Image

Brush guard in flat black. But since it was cold out side it turned a kind of dark grey. looks like a rubberized effect so i left it alone.lol

After...

Same for rear gun mount...
Image

Krylon Fusion Satin Back. Honestly the difference between this and the Fusion Gloss black I used on my CAT tank is next to nothing really. Not really fond of the finish though...

The "lense" can be removed from the spot light. Replacing it with clear plastic from a blister pack.
Image

I painted the wench as a seperate unit in aluminuim. The winch "motor" I later did in blue.

A wash of black really helped teh wheels:

Something odd i noticed as i began to paint the gas can was that it looked too big. Then i put it beside a figure and what do you know, it's way too big. It would be too heavy to lift if it were full of fuel. I then placed it beside a gas can accessory that came with my Power Team Elite Abrams tank. I will be replacing this can with the PTE can. Probably two of them.

I think I will use a couple of these plastic brackets that are always left over when you buy plastic venitian (sp?) blinds as brackets for the gas cans.

Open to questions and comments...
[EDIT: Fixed typoes and added pics of wheels.]

I think it was only $13 at Walmart. Worth every cent. Plus the weapons could always be replaced with one or more of those missile launchers they are throwing in with the Joe figs. I want to get the other jeep they have and the little attack hovercraft they have out.

Very nice so far. I always liked it, but it looked too corpsy (if that's a word). The pre-painted pic without all the gear caught my eye. And the realization that the gear is too big is great too. This vehicle has a ton of potential. I think this will turn out great.

I have 4 of these (1 white, 2 Cobra blue and 1 black) and it is really a cool vehicle. Love all the detailing you are doing to it. I may go back and do the same with mine.

Hey Mysterious Stranger, you got a pic of the white one. This would mold would make a great Arctic Vehicle or even a UN Vehicle.

Image

Paint one of these babies white with UN on the the side and repaint Flint, Stalker, and the ROC Stone (can't remeber his rank) in UN colors (i.e. blue barets), it would be pretty sweet.
Oh yea on the strobe light I was going to put a piece of aluminum foil in to line the socket hole and a clear piece of plastic as the lense but now I have found a round chrom bezel from an old book light the fits. I should ahve pics tomorrow.

The white is Krylon Fusion Satin White and the details are just Model Master Acryl. It took a couple coats to cover that yellow base color so be prepared. Shouldn't take more than one can though, just do light even coats and you'll be fine.

My Fusion Satin Black came out shiney in some places and and semi gloss in others. Maybe I need another coat. It has about 2 coats so far. Any ideas?

It could be a couple of things. One being different types of plastics, finishes or textures of the pieces that are turning out different. Or it could be that the shiny parts are where the paint wasn't mixed completely in the can. Try shaking it more often to insure its well mixed. I did notice on mine that some sections turned out a little shinier than others but it didn't bother me too much.

But what's weird is the shiny bits are in the same places on both side of the vehicle like a mirror. Primarily near edges. The flat places tended to be "rougher".

I wish I had a better set-up that would allow for spray painting, as the work in this vehicle would definitely inspire me to try my hand.

The spraying I did out on the front and back porch and the detailing I did in the kitchen. My wife doesn't love it when i tear up the kitchen but she weighs in the fact that she would rather me clutter the kitchen for a day or two than have me running the streets and staying out all night!lol
