My son actually asked me what the name was of the custom character I was finishing up last night. I told him it was Skullbuster and he looked at me strangely and asked "Why?" The subject line was my response. He had no comeback, so I thought I had the little 4-year-old pwned. But then, after thinking about it and looking at the finished product for a while, he said: "Daddy, I think you should call him Funny Clown Skellington Head." I think he might be on to something.

Anyway, here's my take on the cruel and terrible leader of Cobra's Range-Viper forces:

What head is that?

I think you need to rough up the head some. For a Range Viper, it doesn't seem grizzled enough. I don't mean hair, but maybe some scarring, or something.

Lex Luthor is a Range Viper!

The purple actually works very well. It's a muted shade that, with a little stretch of the imagination, could conceivably be worn as night camouflage. Where you lose me is the red. It's bright and it clashes, and combining it with the purple is what gives Skullbuster the clown look.

Great story. I agree with Scramble. Purple good, red not so much. Clashes too much. I think I actually would prefer to see blue like the original in place of the red.

It's a DCIH Lex Luthor head. The work is nice, but it's not blowing me away. I kinda liked the Devil's Due WW3 look with the dreds, this just feels a bit too "clean" to me. Not unique enough to be a named character. Looks good though, but I agree that the red is a bit bright.

I like the head choice, but I agree the red isn't working. Not that sky blue is any better from the original figure. Maybe silver. Or yellow like the original range vipers. Are the skulls on the shins stickers or 3D?

The head is the DCIH Luthor head and I agree it could stand some roughing up.

On the red, I think you guys nailed it. But I wouldn't want to swap in yellow or light blue for similar reasons (too bright).

Would a deeper, darker crimson work any better or how about a much darker purple to play off the subdued shade of the jersey?

The skulls on the shins are 3D elements of the Ripper lower legs I used.

Outstanding job, Doc. The unmasked head is a nice change from the hidden faced Cobras. Great use of parts.

What about a wash on the face to pull out the lines a bit?

It's not big redo, but the subtle difference would be enough to make that head fit the rough image you're going for.

Incredibly clean custom with a near perfect production feel. Honestly, if you want the truth ask a kid, they have no reservations about hurting your feelings and will tell you what they think. Why do they call him Skullbuster? perhaps he needs sick mace or hammer, something he could bust skulls with. Kind of make a bio for him, that after he kills a Soldier he busts in their skull with this weapon to make it harder to identify the dead Soldier. Kind of a twisted trade mark that made him a notorious range viper and hence got him recognized and promoted through the ranks.
