And the first option I'm thinking of for a helmet. A SW helmet modded to resemble a BBI helmet that wouldn't fit. Thoughts?

too large, isn't it?

Yep ;)

Aww, Chief's been looking at my picture again! Wavy hair and a bad attitude is all I got.

EDIT - Oh yeah, and when you look up Kick ass in the dictionary, this custom is next to it. I'd steal this recipe, but I'd only have my mind blown by how awesome Dr. Bindy* is and I'm not.

(*yes, I know what I did there.)

Still loving the great feedback. Just looked at the update again though, and definitely going back to the drawing board on that helmet - way too big with the extra crap on it.

Now I'm thinking that SW base helmet without the crap (I actually like the way it fits) and maybe actually try out the traditional visor with it. Now I just need to find a visor somewhere.

What about using a Clone Commander visor as an updated version of the classic? Or maybe bash the Clone visor onto the classic to give it an updated look.

I agree that the helmet looks big. I do like what you were trying to do with it though. That same idea on a smaller scale would be perfect. Does the larger Breaker helmet fit this head? That would be a good base helmet to use if it does fit.

Really digging this Dennis.
The new paint on the eyes is outstanding, and added a lot to the look of the head. More serious, and less "so angry I'm going cross-eyed". :-P

I actually really like the helmet.
It may be a bit large, but I still think it looks good.
If you are looking to make it smaller, maybe just trim the side pieces a little to make it a bit more narrow.

Again, great stuff!

the helmet does look pretty good, sure it's a bit large but realistically might be heavy on the head too...so whichever way you go with another should be good since it is you after all...a dr.a lawyer, a customizer who is really good, how can ya go wrong??? Also did you want his visor the figure came with in '82 or a different one to try?

I like the helmet choice for Steeler, actual tanker helmets are not necessarily small. They have a lot of commo gear built into and onto them.

This is a good update to the original version of Steeler. The accessories are very nicely done as well as the paint. Not real partial on the head choice, personally I always pictured Steeler as a cocky young Lieutenant, not a 30 something officer that would look to have control, especially judging by his nicely groomed hair.

Thanks for the good ideas on the helmet guys. MS, i like the clone commander idea, but strangely can't find any in my bin.

Andrew, I lol'd at the so mad I'm cross-eyed thing. You're right about the difference now.

Tim, I think I am going to still try to use this helmet as a base, but with some different details. I'd like to try out the original visor to see what works, so yeah I'm thinking the old '82 visor. Don't have any of those though yet.

Stormavik - very cool to see you check in. I know what you mean by the young officer standard for Steeler, and thus the issue with this head. Here's my thinking, and it's mainly about my personal 'verse. For most of the figures I make, they are in a setting where G.I, Joe is no more. The timeline of the good old days for the Joes would have been in the 90's and early 00's. If Steeler was a young buck officer as a Joe during that time frame, he's now a seasoned hard-ass. All the former Joes I "recruit" for the new org are a bit bitter about having lost to Cobra and having the unit disbanded. The same older angry effect is one I went for with Flint as well. So for me, Steeler here probably left the Army a few years back, retiring as a Major, then came back and joined up with EXCAL with the chance to command the armor division and get some retribution. So I actually purposely went for the older and less regulation look, for what I wanted, but while also hopefully making a figure that was unmistakenly Steeler

That's great stuff. I like the helmet. I'd keep it as is. ;-)

Also, is anyone else seeing Kurt Russell in that head? :-)

Despite the "officers have wavy hair" comments, I like this a lot.
The helmet I think is fine, as someone else said, CVC helmets and aviator helmets look big on a body.
This one looks about right for reality, not slim like many comic representations.

I think the best part about this, and your others, is that one can immedialty see the Joe who is being updated and represented.
even without the visor, i think I would have guessed Steeler. the visor will of course seal the deal if you can get it to work, but the fiugre as is declares itself as Steeler.

Nicely put, he is unmistakenly Steeler. And now that I know about Excal and the time frame that you are dealing with the look makes much more sense.

I think I made the same comment on another board. As I was painting it, I definitely saw Kurt looking back at me. The stubble helped the effect too. Was thinking if I had more Trakker heads, I'd use this as a base for McReady from the Thing.

quick update of Steeler's helmet, with the thinned down sides. I just used styrene for the new parts over the ears, cut to size with a hole-punch. Still not perfect, but as a re-imagined look for Steeler, I'm ok with it.

I'm probably stealing it.

Heh...that'd make me a Stealer.
