I started this on April 4th. Didn't want to show it until I knew I could complete it.

Image

So I decided I wanted a Colonial Marines APC after picking up a Rino and being a bit disappointed in how off it really is from the APC in ALIENS. It would have actually taken more work to mod the Rino, so I'm going with a scratch built version.

So far I have a 1/4" plexi base (Roughly 23 1/2" long and 6.5" wide). I secured the toy lawnmower wheels to the plexi with screws, nuts and bolts.

Image

Next I began making the wheel wells . . .

Image

That's all for now. This was about three hours worth of work. The cost so far, just getting supplies, is around $150.00.

Got to work on it some more . . .

Put the diamond-plate floor in, and started the front . . .

Added some details to the inside. And got the side door finished (I spent about 15 hours on it over the last two days) . . .

I'll be following this project closely. Building it from the floor up, literally, takes some guts, so applaud you for that. I like where it is at so far. Tons of playable space. Is the gear removable? Are you going to have some kid of removable top for access purposes.

Thanks, guys.
Yes it will have a hinged top. That's a must for me. If it can't be played with then there's no point in making it, IMO.

That's already looking cool! It should be pretty imposing looking, when it's done. I know that thing had a bit of a TARDIS effect going on, in the movie. Are you basing your dimensions off the movie's interior sets, or the exterior shots with the working vehicle? Judging by the scale, I'm guessing the interior sets.

The only thing I don't like is having to spend more time waiting to see more of its awesomeness.

Wow, they're actually going to be able to stand up in the inside of this? This thread has been bookmarked.

John, I loved your Flying Wing, and your Devastator, but this one is much more near and dear to my heart. And the detailed WIP pics are gravy. The playability part excites me - very much like Marcus's IJ Tank in that way. I'll bookmark this and have something else to be envious of, along with that scratch built in-scale Millenium Falcon from rebelscum.

Got the driver's side up, and the hubcaps on. Also some more detailing to the rear . . .

A truly impressive undertaking and shaping up so very nicely so far.
