Is there an appropriate sized welding mask floating around out there in 1/18 land?
Or does anyone have any ideas of what to use to make one?

The helmet from Matt Trakker could work as a Welding mask. Cut the helmet in half and attach the front to another helmet. Repaint the helmet either dark grey or black.

I thought about going that route; cutting the front of a Neo-Viper's or Night Adder' helmet off and using an annoying twist-tie thing as the strap that'll hold it to the figure's head. Matt Trakker is a bit more difficult to come by just for this application.

I have a Matt Trakker helmet that I could send you. I have no use for it and if it works for your custom, than I will let you have it.

I actually have sevceral different 1/18 scale welding helmets/masks from various toylines (Chap Mei, Corps!, etc.) over the years. I could part with one of the Corps! ones if bribed correctly (like with a ROC Flash helmet, 2nd 5ph CC staff or PP Baroness pulse rifle ;) ).

In some of the new SW figs coming out, there will be a Hoth Han Solo and he has a welding mask

I might take this into consideration. I just got Spec. Trakker today and although it doesn't look like a conventional welder's mask, it could work. Especially how big it is, it'll fit over my figure's head nicely.

Sounds awesome, unfortunately I haven't got any of those items. And what is a "2nd 5ph CC staff"?
