Been away for a couple of weeks on vacation, but some of these were 99% done before I left. I touched them up today and whipped up a few more while I was waiting for the paint to dry.

Just like drbindy & gijoey, I made a Doc Savage figure. I went with a different head, though - I never liked the widows-peak look, so I decided to make him look more like Ron Ely

Image

I also went with cargo pants instead of poofy riding pants, and an UnderArmour shirt instead of a torn one. I'm really happy with how he turned out:

Image

Head, cargo pockets - Trakker
Legs - Cap
Rest - Modded Piledriver & Green Stuff (Dremeled the lats and smoothed out the chest to make it more shirt-like)

Then, on the advice of drbindy, I took my old Doc custom (one made of Joe parts) and turned him into Race Bannon:

Image

(you can see the major height difference - Doc is the right size now)

Then, as I was making a commissioned Lara Croft-y figure for Suburbanator, I decided that my own Lara needed an update. I'd gone through many different heads, but none ever looked right. Then as I was getting pissed that none of the ponytailed heads I used allowed her to wear her backpack, I found one of those crappy ROC Scarlett heads (the Pit Camo version) and decided to perform an experiment:

Image

Yes, that's really the same head -- just with new paint and a dab of Green Stuff to give her bangs.

I was playing Tomb Raider: Underworld before I went on my trip, but decided then to make some Tomb Raider villains for a change. Those of you familiar with the various TR games can tell me if I hit close enough to the mark:

Amanda Evert:

Image

Just a Helix with Mara Jade arms (I hated to have to use those crappy swivel-elbows, but it was the only thing that fit) -- I may try giving her some tattoos eventually, but I like her so far.

Natla:

Image

Nothing special here - just an LBC with some paint. I may replace the lower legs and give her bare feet like in Underworld, but she's more of a throw-away for me, so I'll probably keep her as-is.

Finally, here's a quick fix (?) on Mary Jane -- still not super-great, but better without that fugly head and with a paint job a little closer to the preview pics:

Cheers!

Cool beans Dan. The Doc Savage looks stealworthy for sure.

Who is that next to him, because it honestly looks like Race Bannon from Jonny Quest!

The Lara update works indeed.

So the Helix can take Mara's arms? That is interesting to know. I have been using the Mara arms to give the Evening Dress Padme torso proper arms in the same plastic color.

Don't know who the winged gal is, but I like her foundation. Bare foot version? Where are you finding usable bare feet? I had to cut up Schleich to get bare feet for my Elf gal.

I saw that Mary Jane online, and wondered what can be done with it. Think I'll put it on my anniversary list.

Love the Doc and if you have to repurpose a custom, Race is the way to do it.

Not at all familiar with the Tomb Raider franchise, so all I can tell you about the villains is that they look very well done.

Excellent Doc. I am working on a new one at the moment, but I am going with the Bama version.

Love teh Lara Croft, especially what you did with the head.

I'm late to the party on this one, but need to comment on Doc, cuz Doc needs some love. I love how similar ideas can become so unique with simple preferences incorporated in the mix. I love the extra work you did on yours to thin down the lats, and make him not quite Superman sized. And that head matches the source you are going for just as close as mine matched the widows peak version.

Having said that, the mods to that Scarlett head on Lara still floor me the most. Only thing I'd say about the figure - while I know you have a strong preference for pants instead of shorts, I think the shorts on Lara Croft are much more practical than they might be for some characters. Just sayin. :)

I don't have even a small frame of reference for the other tomb-raider characters, so it's hard for me to put them in context or critique them.

I will say this - for the bare arms for amanda, check out the bare armed figs from the Avatar line. They don't have wrist articulation, but it's not really needed, and they are much more mobile than these. It's what I used on my recent Starbuck upgrade, and they are perfectly proportioned for Joe size ladies and MU ladies - though they might take a little work to size for the torso, the end result is worth it.

Your MJ is one I'd at least buy if I saw it - though I'd be [LASER BLAST] the whole time about 'why did Chief leave out the wrist articulation and use the same unsculpted mold as he used for the other females?' ...so it's better that I get to complain about Hasbro instead... lol

Thanks guys!

Actually, Dennis - having spent time in a jungle or two, and in a few caves (but not tombs, unfortunately), I can tell you that shorts are the LEAST practical for those environments if you're doing anything other than taking pictures -- remember, the Tomb Raider games were developed by and for dudes living in their Moms' basements, not anyone familiar with the real world ;-)

Also - I don't want to make 40 versions of Lara -- with this one, I can add a coat and she's set up for winter, or I can have her traipsing through the rain forest as-is.

Thanks for the tip on the Avatar figs. If I find any clearanced out, I'll snag a few (saw a bunch at TRU yesterday for $10 :( )
