Any guidance is appreciated. I don't do any paint customizing myself, but I want to maybe redeco a GIJOE vehicle. Does is matter what type of paint I use? I may be painting on straight plastic or some vintage vehicles that have original paint detail, like Tiger Force. Would it matter if I paint over the old paint with either type of paint? I would also be applying repro decals over the new paint if that makes a difference.

Thanks for any help.

Agreed. Go with acrylics. Enamels will not dry on certain plastics, but become very tacky and cause a horrible mess, even with sealer.

Definitely use a primer first, and test it out on a section of the vehicle that will be hidden.

When using Acrylic paint..."ALWAYS" prime before painting, it helps so much against paint rubs, paint smears and paint chipping.

NEVER USE ENAMELS ON PLASTICS !

I use enamel with my airbrush and it dries perfectly with no mess. That Conquest X-30 I did recently was with enamels.

Since I have limited access to hobby shops, I've found that the Krylon Ultra Flat Camo colors with Fusion work very well as a primer. I get it at Walmart. I tend to use the tan because it's a good base for any color, not too dark or light.
