Ah you now know the secret of the "Poor Man's Layaway". It's always fun to find those stashes and move them, knowing the guy who hid them in going to be pissed when he finds out.

Are you talking about the bottom shelves or the overhead shelves with the front covers with the product logo signs on them? I didn't know the bottom shelves came up... :-/

Yep that's a trick that's been around I think since the 60s at least. I remember a guy at Toys R Us showed me the trick when I was younger. Back in the 80s, that seemed to happen a lot. I got many figures like that.

The new trick at Toys R Us is since they have those plastic covers over the overstock area, always check them. It might end up being someone that hid it or just extra stock that hasn't been picked over.

I was at a WM that was remodeling and saw the after effects of the bottom shelf hidey-hole. There was a SW Durge figure with the coin that was stashed, and I guess the run-off from them waxing the floors had seaped under the counter. The Durge was cemented to the tile.

Actually a TRU stocker showed me the shelves. He said he put extra stock that didn't fit on the pegs there for later.

As someone who's used that trick, it certainly can backfire. One spilled soda and that stuff is stuck to the floor. Can't be done at wal-mart anymore, they got rid of the kickplate on all the bottom shelves.

As much as I'd like to, I just can't bring myself do do stuff like taking up shelves or opening sealed cases on pallets or floats, or digging around in the overhead. I guess it's that I've been regimented not to screw around with other peoples stuff, especially their work stuff; it just makes me feel wierd.

Just might try it for some POC Alley Vipers, though. :-D

I ended up opening a case for the Jungle Vipers I got. I had got there just as they had finished stocking the shelf. The pegs were full but not all the Jungle Vipers I wanted and I still wanted an extra Zartan. My wife spotted the unopen case they left. I guess they were going to hope for some to sell and they'd restock the pegs. I went ahead and popped it and took what I needed. In turn I restocked the pegs for them and left the empty box visible so they could dispose of it.

I worked retail and while that would make me scratch my head, I wouldn't have minded. It'd have only been an issue if I needed to price them all, but Target doesn't do that anyway. I figure if I open a case I'll stock the shelf for them too.

Seems reasonable.

I scored a forgotten Endor Han about six months ago when a Wal-Mart started its remodel. Someone had stashed it under the bottom shelf. Sadly it was still full price :(

can still look on the floor to see if people have slid stuff under them, but another good place to check is to try to go to spots of stores where there aren't a lot of security cameras. my thinking on that one is that stashers would hide where no one saw it or would know where to look ;-)

recently i put the wal-mart jabba exclusive behind some godawful summer floats that were on clearance and apparently didn't get touched for a few weeks...

back when i was living in SC there was a k-mart that had shelves that couldn't be lifted up b/c they were somehow wired/attached to the bottom panel, looked like they were leftover from the 60's or something. just looked old.

I once stashed a Transformer in a TRU in the upper shelf area with the cover over it clear across the store in the stuffed animal section. Stayed there for two weeks until I had the $$$.

I don't do it often, but I'm not reluctant about it for sufficient reason.
