I actually met the real deal when I was a kid!
He was going that court battle over his mask; & did personal appearances to pay for it.
Anyway; this is an awsome figure, & brought back a great memory from my childhood.

The body is perfect. I'm not sold on the head. The face is ok but the flat top doesn't seem right.

Fantastic job! The Lone Ranger is a character that is over due for a reboot... Is Tonto next? One can only hope...

TigerClaw, I'd love to see a pic of the PTE horse. The downside to the Indy horse is the lack of a proper saddle.

headandhand, I did look into the thigh straps, but they hindered the articulation too much, so I left them off. As for inspiration, The Lone Ranger was one of the first figures I had as a kid, and for years now I've wanted in in 1:18th scale.


chaosx and Shakka85, I may make a Tonto one day. He wasn't a real priority. But I wouldn't rule out making one some day.


pluv, the nice part about the haircut was that the hat actually fit on the figure. I didn't know what a PITA it was going to be to find a good looking cowboy hat.

The more I revisit this, though, the more I like that, as is. I mean, as usual, the quality is clear, on par with your usual high standard, truly. So it's nothing to diminish the fact, and certainly not worth a sacrifice in articulation, I'd agree. I'd say good call.

After seeing your Apache figure from a while back, I would love to see a Tonto from you, as I'm thinking that would be awesome.

Btw, I especially enjoyed those outside shots. The true light really wonderfully reveals the utter quality of your paint work, John.

congrats! How many does that make now? Not that I'd ever get the nod, but always mean to post there, and never get around to it.

Some follow-up thoughts. One, if you wanted the leg tie-down for the holster, you could simply add straps to the legs, but not directly connect them to the holsters. The look of tie downs would be there, but articulation would not be lost. It would be a compromise though, which right now you don't have to make.

Two, for a modest investment you could track down the Silver from the 1980s 1/18 Lone Ranger line. I am certain the horse would be too small for this figure, though it is possible that the saddle and bridle could be usable. I had both the larger scale Gabriel Lone Ranger figs as a kid, and the 3 and 3/4 inchers. They weren't the best articulated in the world, but fit in well with Star Wars at the time, and were actually more articulated than they were.
