I stumbled on some concept artwork from the first Iron Man film and one of the pieces that really stood out to me was the art for War Machine. It has obviously changed since preproduction on the first film into what we saw in Iron Man 2 but I still like the sleeker lines of the concept art version. So taking what parts were available and crafting some of my own I came up with a figure version of this artwork that I'm really happy with.

I took the torso, head, upper arms and upper legs from an IM2 War Machine and put it together with the lower arms and lower legs from an IM2 Inferno Armor and the shoulder armor of a IM2 Mark II.

The rocket pod is from the first K-Mart War Machine and the gun is a bash of fodder parts including a Star Wars gun and the end of a Marauder mini-gun. The gun doesn't match the art but I couldn't find anything close to that design so I created my own advanced looking mini-gun. The rocket pod is a cast from Asphalt.

And not being one to let the spare parts go to waste I put them together with a IM2 Mark II and came up with a prop to show the upgrading of the Mark II to War Machine.

Cool man. I'd been thinking the Power Assault/Inferno armor Iron Man had to have been based off of some War Machine concept art, but I had no idea it was from as far back as the first movie. The two designs shared so many aspects that were just a bit different, so it's nice to have my theory confirmed. Like the work you've done, paint matching is great and I dig the new minigun. Awesome figure.

The paint matching was easy once I found that Tamiya's Gun Metal is a dead on match for the molded color of War Machine. Its a tiny bit more metallic but in person it looks great.

The concept art is from the art book for the first film when they were considering having Tony create several versions of the Iron Man. I flipped through it at the book store a few months ago after finding the art online. Lots of cool stuff in that book.

Is the weapon assembly all one piece now? It looks like the missile pos attaches to teh mini-gun. It looks good regardless. I'm glad your package arrived well.

No the missile pod is on the left mount and the custom gun is on the right. I'll try to take a pic of figure without so much behind it so you can see everything.

I like your version better than the one sold in stores if I can ever carve out a spot to work in my new house I might have to barrow that idea. Nice job.

I dig your work on these, and I am envious of your Armory. Wish I knew/cared more about the specific variations, but as it stands I can't see pumping in the money to get them all, at least until they hit a real clearance - then it's on. lol

I wasn't planning on getting as many of the different armors as I have but once I got started it just kinda took on a life of its own. And I hadn't planned on customizing any at all beyond adding missile pods to the War Machine figs I have. But this idea just popped into my head last week and I had to try it out. It worked out just as I'd hoped. Now I just need to find the funds to get some more of the Mechanical Chain Bases so I can expand the Armory display base.
