A while back I made a 25th-style Techno-Viper to support my new-style Cobra troops, and I was happy enough with that design. But after making another, I decided it really was a lot of effort to go to for an army builder. So recently I decided to take a swing at a more easily reproduced figure so I could really fill out my Cobra ranks.

Here's the recipe I landed on:

It's a pretty straight-up set of paint apps and a head swap on the Air Viper Commando that came with the Target Exclusive C.L.A.W. I picked up several of those cheap off of eBay and spent a little more on some original 1987 Technos for their gear and noggins.

What do you guys think? Worth it?

I dig it, a nice way around paint rub but still easily recognizable as a techno. I hope someone starts casting that gear soon....

I've been wondering what would be a good purple base figure to make a Techno-Viper and you have it right here. I may be tracking down a couple of these figures to copy this custom. Very nicely done.

you have such a great eye for parts. It never would've occurred to me to use that base figure, but it is perfect. I really, really like this.

Dammit. Beat me to it. Been sitting on a bunch of those figures for my own Technos. I like seeing that that base color works so well though, that'll definitely make my job easier.

Definitely worth it! That looks fantastic, and I would have done the exact same thing you have done here, if I had the original Techno-Viper parts that is... Great job!

This figure is exactly what I would expect in a ME Tele-Viper, and that's why I like it so much. You've married the classic look to the new construction style seamlessly. And as always your painting/detail technique is spot on for a production look. Great job.

Like it, the colors are more subdued - which actually helps. Group shot FTW!

Okay, guys, per your request...here's a shot of what the Techno looks like grouped in with what will be a typical field mission squad in my Joeverse (albeit usually with a couple more regular Vipers mixed in):

That S.A.W.-Viper is definitely a WIP. So far I've just secured a few different heads and helmets to equip a number of them:

I'm going to be painting the armor, but at this point I can't decide which color. Should it be purple as a nod to the original S.A.W. color scheme (though I'd go with a darker shade) or should it be a blue to match the Viper and Tele-Viper?

Thoughts?

Love, love, love the SAW Viper. That Destro is just too sweet, and works too well. Not sure on color. I'd have to mock something up to know for sure, but don't have time today. I'd be tempted to do black armor and shirt/pants purple that leans towards maroon. Almost the purple color of the Night Creeper

Love it... Since he's a definite updated design, and not a straight translation, I'd say don't feel restricted to the original colors.
