This was my first scratch-build project, and it's finally done!

I've wanted a toy version of the Moldy Crow for a long, long time. Dark Forces was the first computer game I ever played (way back in junior high), and still remains one of my favorites today. I, of course, also loved its sequels, Jedi Knight, Jedi Outcast, and Jedi Academy, and for years made modifications for all of them. I knew Hasbro would never release a Moldy Crow toy, but I also couldn't find base vehicles that were close enough to kitbash. So it made a perfect scratch-build project.

With a few small exceptions, the whole thing is made from sheet styrene (HobbyTown probably got pretty sick of seeing me every other day or so). The only things not scratch built are the seats (from the ROCC), the control panel, the hatch on top, and the mount for the gun (all from an unfortunate Weather Dominator). I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, and it goes great with the super-articulated Kyle Katarn I made awhile back.

Here are way too many WIP pictures, if you're interested:

And here's the finished thing. Some of these pictures are awful, some are just bad. Unfortunately, this thing is a [LASER BLAST] to get a good shot of.

Awesome... Dark Forces and Jedi Knight have a similar place in my life as a gamer, so maybe nostalgia is colouring my judgement, but I don't think Hasbro could possibly have done better. :-)

Agreed. Outstanding.

And Im really glad to see it done.

Been keeping an eye out, and when I hadnt seen any WIP pics for a while I thought youd abandoned this.

I agree completely. This is the best scratch built vehicle I've seen in a while. I am impressed with your skills.

Heh, I was so absorbed in the workmanship on the Crow that I only just realised Kyle has a green lightsaber. Nice touch. :)

I know nothing about the source material, but that is some fantastic work.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone! I had a lot of fun building this.

Nah, I just got to the point where I figured people were sick of wip pics. And after a certain point, it was just various stages of the painting and detailing.

Heh, yeah, as much as I liked Jedi Outcast, I still prefer the earlier games.

Oh my.

That's beautiful Darko!! Looks nothing scratchbuilt at all!

Spectacular job you did here. It looks MASSIVE too! How sturdy is it? My only concern with using styrene only for such a huge project would be the overall flimsiness; I'd be afraid of handling it and playing with it.

Do you have a link to your Kyle Katarn too?

I can't wait for you to use the Crow in a dio now!

This turned out really sweet. No critiques at all. Looking forward to your next project.
As for the pics- these aren't bad at all. But try taking some outside. The natural lighting usually gives better, clearer, pics.

This.

Not too shabby for a first try. :D Man that turned out awesome. A lot of flat surfaces with tons of angular cuts and then the engines/wings with the rounded edges. Crazy.

Remster_9, styrene comes in different thicknes and can be supported really well so that a finished product is as strong if not stronger than a production piece. It comes down to the builder and how much they put into making it structurally sound. Dark Horse for example said he could skateboard acrossntue room on his Indy tank. Having followed the WIPs for this I'm willing to bet the main body is very solid.
