I have Dark Horse to thank for these customs. After seeing his recent Red Shadows figures, I looked at my old stuff and wasn't happy any more. So I looked at DH's figures again and took inspiration.

I decided that what I wanted to do was make a new set of customs, but this time try and stay as close to the original Palitoy figures as possible. I already had a Black Major I was happy with, but felt he needed a new head. As far as I was concerned, the Red Shadows were a no brainer, and I had a couple of spares in my box. I just had to make a mold from the original heads. The Baron was a different matter. I was dreading painting an Imperial Officer completely white. Then I remembered Thrawn :-D . I ordered a loose figure from Ebay. Then it arrived and I saw the size of it :verymad: I don't normally swear, but I was referring to Hasbro as a bunch of  for the rest of the day. Out came the knives and power tools and I extended the torso, upper arms and lower legs. Not 100% happy with it, but I feel I did okay turning a sow's ear into a silk purse.

Baron Ironblood:
Image

Head: Cast
Body: Comic Pack Thrawn (heavily modified)
Logo (plus red part): Inkjet vinyl

The head is cast from an original Baron Ironblood. I put the helmet on a figure and filled in the top with some epoxy clay. I then made a mold of the entire thing using siligum and cast it. just had to sand the top down and the flaps from the back.

The Black Major:

Head: Cast from IJ: TLC Colonel Vogel
Body: 25th Beach Head

The Red Shadows:

Heads: Cast from Original Red Shadows figures
Figures: IJ: RotLA

I may well go back and remake some of the others.

I love your Shadows. When I saw those german soldiers, I actually considered doing the same thing.

Not just that.
The original Action Force Red Shadow figures were red versions of an AF WW2 German Stormtrooper released the previous year, with a new head.

That is exactly why I went with the IJ German troops. I wanted to get as close to the originals as possible.

Great looking figures. I absolutely love AF and the Red Shadows and love seeing customs. I need to finish out my set of them now...

That's why I bought some of the IJ Germans when they first came out, with the hopes of making them into RS Troops. You may have inspired me to finish them.

Very nice.

I did something very similar with my Baron a while back, but still haven't found a helmet I'm happy with.

Did you cast your own or buy a cast?

I cast my own. I have the original figure, but I put the vinyl helmet over a new head. I think it was a POTF2 Grand Moff Tarkin. I then filled in the hole at the top with clay and made a mold with siligum. Managed to damage the mold slightly with the first cast I made, but this latest one actually looks better. Just had to sand down the top, sand the 'flaps' off the back and repair the bottom of the visor. I also cast my own Shadows helmets.
