So I managed to find a couple of Apocalypse figs last night on the way home from work, and realized that 'Pocy looked WAY too stubby. Even in his Age of Apocalypse outfit, he wasn't this chunky (although, that does give me an idea for a custom...), so I quickly went to work on trying to "fix" him.

Swapped out his mid-thighs with those of a pack-in Legends Wolverine (came with an X-men car like 7-8 years ago) and found what I think is the "close-enough" solution:

Image

I was going to ditch his stupid shoulder pads and try to make a more traditional version (like the '93 Toy Biz version I've been using as my default until today), but then realized that a giant "A" on your belt is just as stupid, and with the longer legs, the shoulder pads aren't nearly as ridiculous-looking.

Image

I would have liked to lengthen his torso a bit, but I wasn't in the mood for major surgery. Pulling his belt further down to expose his mid-torso will just have to do for now.

With the other power-hitters:

Image

He's not really that knock-kneed -- his legs actually line up almost perfectly, I just can't pose worth a crap and didn't want to go back and re-shoot the pics.

And the whole reason I even bothered:

Next up:

And possibly:

Cheers!

Some sort of torso lengthening on him is a must.

And now, with your side-by-side shot with Darkseid, I'm now realizing just how much Apocalypse is little more than some sort of Liefeldian perversion of Darkseid.

Well "LASER BLAST". I wanted to try to find one of this guy to add to my collection. Now I don't think so because you just ruined the stock figure for me. No way I can accept a stubby Apocalypse after seeing how awesome he looks with longer thighs.

Great work,Chief! I have been thinking of a couple ways to fix my Apocalypse height issue/stubbiness,And I think that you nailed it.However,I 've gotta figure out a way to crack that torso open,Because I imagine it can be raised like the Iron Man 2 Iron Monger comic series. Also,If I still had my AOA version laying around I would have to give that a try,Because the Juggernaut boots would match up perfectly. Thanks for the ideas,And great custom.

Makes me wish they'd put out a bigger Apocalypse as an exclusive and let people pay more just to get it at a realistic height. Well, as realistic as comic figures can be, which is hard to do since they gave him that ability to change his size...and then cop out & say he's "usually" 7' tall..

Fantastic!
I still have my Apocalypse in his package and my Toy Biz figure on the shelf.
I really wasn't very thrilled with the new figure, for exactly these reasons. Now I need to find some replacement legs, to let him live up to his full potential.

What were the legs you used? A wolverine that came with a car?

Thanks everyone - he's not perfect, but he definitely fits in with my other mega-powered bad guys now:

It was some vehicle combo I got at KB's on clearance - here's what the upper half of Wolvie looked like:

But really, any 6" scale set of thighs would have worked, based on how I spliced them in - I only used these because I didn't want to chop up a decent ML fig.

Thanks again dudes!

While the craftsmanship is definitely there, I just don't agree with this as a fix. His thighs are just way too long in proportion to his torso and calves. It reminds me of a lot of the newsculpt figures with the short torsos and super-long legs.
