So in addition to a Wonder Woman custom I made for her awhile back, my wife also asked for a custom of her. Guess she was tired of seeing all my self customs standing next to customs of random hot chicks. lol

Anyway I had this parted together for awhile, but did a late headswap. The one I wanted didn't look as good once I added paint, plus, she dyed her hair recently, and I decided to swap that also.

I made the figure with dual purposes in mind. For one, she can work as a stand-alone custom version of my wife, and looks good next to the civilian-ized version of Knighthawk (me). Added a slightly older than he really is custom of my son for this purpose also. However, I also intend to add all three of these figures into my current project, which is a sci-fi verse. So while contemporary in nature, the wife figure's outfit also has some subtle details which would hopefully make it work in a future setting as well. Even this particular version of Knighthawk is being re-named and re-purposed for the new verse, though I like that it too is versatile enough to work for multiple purposes.

The lab coat is by headandhand/JZ. Since the pic I have finished the kid's eyes (pupils). The self-custom's right eye doesn't look that bad in person, but I do intend to fix it up.

I've so far only shown previews of the new verse, and this post will also have to serve as a preview only. I have some fun projects in mind for my son's custom.

More of my wife:

I should point out that in real life my wife is a nurse and also spent years in the lab as a technologist. I'm taking some small liberties and writing her in as a doctor, and thinking she'll spend some time as a ship's doc, and perhaps also have a forensics background in this new setting.

That rocks. And I like that kid custom as well. Great stuff, as always.

The kid and the doctor custom look nice. Anything more than that out of me makes me feel creepy. :shifty:

Yeah, I saw the title and then remembered seeing all drbindy's female figures for sale. :shifty: pretty much covers it.

It's cool that guys are making customs of their 'little woman'. It's a nice idea and possibly worthy of a Group Project (Friends and Family/Civilians).

Awesome! A family custom round, and while others will hedge around the issue, you guys collectively look like a TV late night action drama family(the lawyer who looks ex-Black Ops, the medical wife that makes her coworkers hate your guts, the son that probably can outwit the next version of software before it is even released..). Far too cool and attractive to be believed, but one better believe it.

Love it. I think portrait customs are my favorite thing ever, and this one is great. Wives who support the hobby are awesome!

well done and a nice idea to do. Does she like her plastic self?
How about your son?
What are the parts you used for her?
My only issue is I don't like cloth on plastic figures much but it is well done and a doc would have one

Thanks for the feedback guys - and no, don't worry about any of your comments sounding creepy, lol. In scale, Tim? I'd say pretty close... :monocle:

Other Tim - yeah, my wife is happy with the custom. I got some input from her along the way, to make sure she approved of the head selection. She chuckled about the "LASER BLASTS" being so prominently displayed, but oh well. lol.

I don't think my son appreciates I was making a version of him in plastic form just yet. But he does think the "kid" figure is a pretty cool one. That one is even cooler all geared up, once I get to that point.

Eric, thanks for the kind words buddy. The way you described the look of this set made me start hearing 80s TV theme music in my head. awesome! lol.

John, pluv and Dan - thanks guys!

DJ - don't you worry, there are still plenty of plastic ladies on my desk to keep my self customs company. lol. The ones I've sold have been to keep my proportions in check. I don't want to have more female customs than manly action figures, or maybe my wife will start asking questions... :shifty:

You never disappoint. The little extra job related bits, really add to the figure. I love the working pockets on the lab coat, too.

Thanks again guys. Just to be clear though - the coat was made by headandhand. He was gracious in sending it to me as part of a trade, and I've been sitting on it for a year since, just for this figure! I have a small update pending, partly to just fix the eyes on the boy and the self custom, but I've got another one of those details you might dig too.

Say, perhaps your boy's issue has to do with the fact that he resents his figure's resemblance to a young John C. Reilly...

I might. LOL.

Seriously fantastic stuff, D. Your skills have progressed by leagues over the past year. All of these look great, especially "the lady doctor".

While I cannot verify the accuracy, in any case, I am quite sure that the figure, as nice as she is, may not hold a candle to the real. ;)

Sincerely flattered by your use of the garment, too. It looks to somewhat fit even over that shoulder rig, which is good. And again, thank you for using it in such a manner as would lend it perhaps some measure more value than what it would have otherwise imparted. And I'm glad that you dig it.

Better than ever all the time, brother.

I never got around to commenting on this the first time around, so without further ado, let me just say this: beautiful work on all three. You've outdone yourself.

I love the concept behind them too. Sounds like the basis for some great bedtime stories. :)

Thanks JZ. The updated pics of my own custom and my son's are in this thread:http://www.joecustoms.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=29474&p=329472&hilit=wife+custom#p329472

I gave him an ipod which I was really happy with how it turned out. And fixed the eyes for both.

I should clarify that when I said he didn't "appreciate" it was of him, it wasn't that he was unhappy about it. I just think he had not got his mind around that being the purpose. Now he gets it, and he asks to play with these 3 figures all the time. I also made a little mech figure for his custom (not yet ready for public consumption, lol) and he loves that too.

Perhaps the most rewarding moment I've had as a customizer (who is also a dad) is when my son asked me to help him make my self custom hold the hand of his custom.

Also, I should add that while not everyone in my non-Joe world knows I do this as a hobby, my wife liked these so much she showed a lot of our friends and family these at my son's birthday party, and they were mostly impressed, though with many questions. ;)

Thanks man. Yeah, my boy is really digging these now. That said, I did make them mostly for me. I am going to make some "older versions" customs for him, so that when he plays he can pretend to be older. As a kid, I don't think I'd have enjoyed having my play self be a child also, lol.
