You've got me there, I noticed the 25th female figures sold decently. Heck, Helix, horrible a character as she is, sold decently.

Because she was a good toy, that looked fun, and came with neat accessories.

I think any toy that has those qualities is going to sell well.

I don't quite understand some of the contradictory info from that interview?
-we've seen all the Joes for the 30th line
-no more variants
-renegades is over
-but there are 3 additional unannounced waves? what are they going to consist of, if all the above is ruled out?

Anyway, very little good news here. But as usual, what Hasbro says and what they actually end up doing is often quite different, so whatever.

And I totally agree with what others have said about the schizophrenic approach to marketing (or lack thereof) to kids vs. collectors. Management simply does not know what to do, or how to do it with Joe. It could be such a cash cow in competent hands! Consider:
This is one of the few unlicensed, in-house properties they have (no licensing fees to pay)
A good chunk of the design work is already done (names, concepts, color and design schemes from 30 years ago)
Its a military toy for goodness sake! It should be selling itself!
Thanks to the internet, companies know more than ever who is buying their products and what those customers demand.
Hollywood is involved. And while that was disastrous last time around (like many of predicted it would be) in the right hands and with the right approach, it could be the most powerful add ever!

tl;dr Hasbro management hasn't got a clue when it comes to Joe, and sadly the line suffers due to thir utter incompetence.

If Hasbro is Truly a Business, and in the Business of Selling toys, and the consumers are ASKING for female figs, why the hell not give it to us? Consumers asked for new flavors of soft drinks and we Got Coke with Lime, Vanilla coke, and so on...

Hell the Star wars line has a figure for virtually EVERY character int he mythos, Even the Ice cream maker guy has a figure, and he was on screen for what? 12 milliseconds?!
...all because someone asked for him.
It seems that the brand managers want one thing, then the execs seem to come int and kneecap them. particularly in THIS line.

Again, and again, and again: WE are NOT Hasbro's customers. Us talking to Hasbro doesn't count for a gnat's fart in a hurricane if WM has their mind set on what a product is for and why they're buying it and who they think they're gonna sell it to. WM is the 800lb smelly gorilla in the toy industry and for a major producer like Hasbro, what WM says is what happens, actual end user customers and their wants be damned.

a) if G.I.joe is a child driven toyline, why do you invite COLLECTORS to Toyfair?

b) if G.I.joe is a child driven toyline, why is the main push for the line always in venues that CHILDREN USUALLY DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO? (how many kids vs adults go to Joecon and SDCC?)

Because collectors will take care of informing the fans for Hasbro. All they have to do is put the stuff on display and the fansites will do the rest. Also, Toy Fair is a trade show. It only very recently that collectors and the press were allowed in. The main point of it is for toy companies to show off and sell product to retailers. Period. Also, while GI Joe may not be a child driven toyline, they want it to be. The casual spending of parents will going to beat the pans off of the spending of collectors any day. They do need to find a better way to interest new people to the property, but they obviously aren't sure of the best way to do that. They tried Renegades, and now they're throwing support behind the movie. Hopefully they'll have a new cartoon ready to follow up the movie and keep the interest level the movie might create for the property.

Lady Jaye > Scarlett

Renegades Scarlett does not wear a leotard.

Lady Jaye is a million times better a character than Scarlett.

So Hasbro basically just doesn't care about G.I.Joe, unless a movie is coming out. And I'll say it know, the sequel will be just as bad as the first, sequels usually only get worse. I doubt Joe#2 will have the same feel as Empire.

So no new cartoons, and only a collector oriented line, that is marketed towards kids?

really? There is a whole lot of people making too much money for their level of competence.
I'm really starting to wonder what the hell is going on over there at the blue house. We get shotty distribution of small waves of figures,
originally planned release's showing up in Canada but not here, no Data Viper, Blue Iron Hides, A Skystriker they said would never see the light of day.

What the ^&*( is going on over there?

I agree with all the sentiments here. The worst news for me is that Tatum is back for the sequel. If I recall correctly, Hasbro had to delay POC to remove movie likenesses so the figures would actually sell. Now they're ready to back the same diseased horse again.

No new vehicles actually doesn't bother me, between vintage and 25th I have all the vehix I could ever want, and Im out of room anyway. And honestly, I have not been impressed with too many of the new vehicles made since the new sculpt era began anyway.

Joe is clearly not strong at retail. My Walmart and TRU both quit carrying them, and Target has had exactly one snowy Destro and one Duke sitting there gathering dust for months. At this rate I doubt stores will even order the 30th.

Id rather not go doom & gloom, but I can easily see Joe going DTC only again before fading out entirely. At which time I will finally be able to enjoy the collection, instead of constantly worrying about adding to it.

No, they had to delay POC to remove movie likenesses because the movie line was over and done with and they didn't want to pay for unnecessary likeness fees.

Even for the next movie line they shouldn't use the actor's likeness.

Tatum sure as hell had more life and command capacity than Sunbow Duke or Resolute Duke.

I mean, he's no Renegades Duke, but still...
