Exactly. He acted far more like an undisciplined recruit than an experienced special forces badass.

Imma throw some chains around this thing and drag it back on topic.

When I saw this topic, I thought "Man, if Joe is gonna continue to survive with a reduced line, they better make sure every figure is a winner." At $9 each, they better be.

And they are! I don't collect the modern guys any more, but I haven't seen an assortment this strong in personal likes and faves since 86 when I bought Hawk and couldn't wait to get everyone else.

Actually I kinda fear the second movie, as I don't want it to disrupt this "smaller line, better quality" approach. But since I don't buy them, I'm thinking the purchasers opinions carry more weight.

The real problem is that GI Joe shouldn’t be “The Duke and Friends Show”. Duke is such a watered-down generic nobody that it’s pretty much impossible to write good stories around him since there’s no where for his bland non-character to grow. Duke just plain-old sucks as a Joe character. In that regard, Tatum is perfect for him.

Hasbro equates Duke to Optimus Prime. That's why Duke will always be featured and never truly die.

Which sucks since we all know Duke isn’t even as cool as Hot Rod. Hawk is Optimus.

Well of course he's not. Hot Rod's awesome.

That he is. That he is. Except he doesn't take as many faces.

After watching Season 3 and 4 of G1, I know just how wrong this statement is.
G1 Hot Rod has the same amount of awesomeness as the ROC Duke.

none.

Hot Rod is more awesome than Duke. Has Duke ever been voiced by Judd Nelson? No? I rest my case.

I don't quite understand some of the contradictory info from that interview?
-we've seen all the Joes for the 30th line
-no more variants
-renegades is over
-but there are 3 additional unannounced waves? what are they going to consist of, if all the above is ruled out?

Anyway, very little good news here. But as usual, what Hasbro says and what they actually end up doing is often quite different, so whatever.

And I totally agree with what others have said about the schizophrenic approach to marketing (or lack thereof) to kids vs. collectors. Management simply does not know what to do, or how to do it with Joe. It could be such a cash cow in competent hands! Consider:
This is one of the few unlicensed, in-house properties they have (no licensing fees to pay)
A good chunk of the design work is already done (names, concepts, color and design schemes from 30 years ago)
Its a military toy for goodness sake! It should be selling itself!
Thanks to the internet, companies know more than ever who is buying their products and what those customers demand.
Hollywood is involved. And while that was disastrous last time around (like many of predicted it would be) in the right hands and with the right approach, it could be the most powerful add ever!

tl;dr Hasbro management hasn't got a clue when it comes to Joe, and sadly the line suffers due to thir utter incompetence.

Do you ever wonder if the reason why Hasbro does not put forth the same effort as the other brands is due to the fact that GI Joe is a brand that they own. If you were in management, would you want GI Joe to cannibalize sales from say Star Wars or Marvel Universe when you had to pay huge licensing fees? It's a tough balancing act, since you want to get the Star Wars rights to keep it away from Mattel or Playmates and at the same time, it might unintentionally take away resources from your own in-house product. Also, doesn't anyone find it odd that Hasbro has been willing to co-brand Tranformers with Star Wars and Marvel products, but aside from the SDCC Starscream Skystriker, GI Joe and TF never really cross paths outside of a few robots with passing resemblance to a dune buggy or Snowcat?

Ive asked that question several times at Joecon and Toy fair.. and seem to get the same answer:

either they have 'no plans' for it... or they want to take G.i.joe in "a different direction"

whatever the hell that means...

From what was said this year, it is more the Transformers team that does not want to do any Joe/Transformer crossovers. They (TF team) hate the Marvel and Star Wars ones, but have no control of it, but they do have a say with Joe and they do not want to do it. The Starscream repaint was a fight and will more then likely be it. Though with fan reaction to it, it may change their minds. So if we want to bug people about a Joe/TF crossover, bug the TF people!

If you were on the TF design team, would you want to have to deal with the mismanagement of G.I.Joe, especially when it directly effects the ability to sell the product?
It's my understanding that TF and Joe are under the Blue House laws, but are technically owned by two different in house parties.
