John Carter:
Image

Head: Build'n'Brawl
Body: MU Piledriver
Harness/Gunbelt: MU Cable
Belt/Harness Buckles: PotC
Sword: Papo

This ended up being an amalgamation from the descriptions in Edgar Rice Burroughs' Barsoom trilogy: Princess of Mars/Gods of Mars/Warlord of Mars (particularly the short hair), the Marvel Comics series from the 1970s and the recent comic.
The paint on his face is exactly the same shade as on his body. For some reason, it looks different in photos. It does look the same in hand.

I am working on a couple more figures to go with him.

This colors and accessories for this guy are eye catching to say the least. Do you remember which PotC figure you got the buckles from?

That's pretty awesome dude. I think the skin tones match ok in the pics actually. It's the 5 'clock shadow that perhaps makes the illusion otherwise. Even so, if it bothers you, the question is were both pieces painted, or is one in a molded flesh tone color? If one is molded, simply do a light wash over it with the same color as the paint you used, and it will photograph better.

But like I said, I'm not sure it's a mismatch even now.

I like the parts, I like the theme, I like the character, and I like the end result. Nicely played.

I totally dig this. You've been on some roll with customs.

It was the World's End Tai Huang figure. I made it a while back, just never got around to posting it. I think I cast the buckle.

Edit: Yes, they are a cast of the buckle.

I like this custom a lot. Burroughs' Mars series is one of my favorites, and you really nailed his appearance based on the descriptions. I'm not 100% crazy about the head choice, but that's just due to what I always pictured based on the covers I have (you're right about the accuracy, though). I really like that you went with bright colors for the boots.

I hope you've got more figures from the series planned. I'd love to see someone attempt a Thark custom (something I've been meaning to do for years and just haven't found a base figure I like). While a Marvel-Legends-scale figure would be a bit short to be size-accurate, they might make a passable Thark, especially for a thicker-built fellow like Tal Hajus.

Oh, and in regard to the buckle you used: I could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure our very own Kamakura made the version of that buckle that appears in the movie.

I have started on Tars Tarkas, and in scale to the John Carter figure, he comes in at about 16 foot tall.

AWESOME. Looks like he just walked off the cover of a Vallejo trading card. The accessories on the body scream.
