I would say the original list is pretty accurate. I would probably add:

Outback (the comics said it all why he should be int his list)
Tracker (on his card, it was listed that he is listed along the lines of Spirit and Snake eyes as a tracker)
Crosshairs (new blood with similar training as low light)
Dr. Link Talbot (despite being a veterinarian, he IS a Navy seal)

Rip Cord and Outback from the comics.
You've all read them, so I don't need to explain. But when Rip Cord takes on Zartan, that's just too cool! And Outback abandoning his friends to actually save them. That's bad ass!

Good call, man. He definitely belongs on this list. While I give props to Larry for not including Cobra-La in the comics, I always wish he would have featured the Renegades. Their ultra-secret black ops mission would have made for some cool stories, and the storyline around Mercer had tons of potential. A real missed opportunity, far as I'm concerned.

Funny you should mention it, because the team breakouts in issue 50 inspired my teams for pretty much the next 20 years. Also, I pretty much stopped including characters introduced after '86 (the year I stopped buying Joes as a kid), so my go-to team was usually:

1. Snake Eyes
2. Torpedo
3. Flint (Team Leader)
4. Stalker
5. Storm Shadow (he's not a flip-flopper in my 'verse)
6. Spirit
7. Low-Light
8. Beach-Head
9. Gung-Ho
10. Recondo

I agree with that list, chief, specially when you mention Flint. He may be a bit more on the crazy side, but he's got guts, that's for sure.

But there are a few characters after 86 that should be counted as tough guys. I mentioned Outback, many others did too. I also liked a few of the others from 87-88, like Tunnel Rat, Falcon, HitnRun and Shockwave.

Part of the reason I love Joe so much is the diversity of character specialties and strengths. So it's hard for me to say "here's my 10-man all-star squad without knowing mission parameters, theater of operation, etc.

Essentially, I have three "A" teams for circumstances that could arise in any environment.

Clandestine/Covert Ops Team
These are usually the first Joes into any situation. Pretty much all of them have extensive cross training and are extremely adaptable to complex mission parameters where avoiding detection and gathering intel are the primary objectives.
•Stalker: Team Lead
•Scarlett: CIA Liaison/Counterintelligence
•Lady Jaye: Analytics
•Snake Eyes: Freelance Contractor/Commando
•Chuckles: Undercover Operative
•Jinx: Intelligence Operative/Commando
•Low Light: Sniper
•Clutch: Ground Transportation Coordinator
•Torpedo: Jump/Dive Coordinator
•Mainframe: Operations Coordinator

Fire Team
When a straight up, loud assault is your objective, this is your go-to group.
•Steeler: Field Commander/Armor Coordinator
•Duke: Squad Leader
•Rock & Roll: Suppressive Fire
•Roadblock: Suppressive Fire
•Zap: Artillery/E.O.D.
•Short Fuze: Artillery
•Grunt: Infantry
•Footloose: Infantry
•Covergirl: Ground Transportation
•Breaker: Operations Coordinator

Recovery Team
These are the guys you call in when one of your other teams gets into a heap of trouble and needs their butts pulled out of the fire. Most of these guys would qualify as all-around bad-asses, I guess.
•Falcon: XO
•Flint: Air Transport/Squad Leader
•Gung Ho: Infantry/Recon
•Leatherneck: Infantry/Recon
•Beach Head: Infantry/Small Arms Armorer
•Outback: Infantry/Survivalist
•Tunnel Rat: Suppressive Fire/E.O.D.
•Crosshairs: Sniper
•Wet Suit: Jump/Dive Coordinator
•Dial-Tone: Operations Coordinator

Of course, depending on the theatre/environment, I might swap in a Recondo or a Snow Job on any one of these teams for optimal expertise.

by his filecard, Big Brawler is the baddest of them all. Really, his file card is ridiculous.

Sky Patrol. They have always been my dedicated CSAR team.
Depending on the mission/terrain I may also add Dusty + Doc or Snow Job + Lifeline or Recondo + Stretcher
