About a month ago I downloaded Google Sketchup and decided to try my hand at some 3D rendering. After uploading about 10 models to shapeways I put in two orders. Here is what I received from my second order.

I started with some larger transformers items. I made both of these the first day I had the program.
The first piece I rendered was a request for a simple, unadorned, straight edged sword.




A few pieces later I uploaded the razor mace.




Since I am predominatly a Joe customizer I created some pieces for 1:18 scale as well.
Reactive Armor Shield




A power Glaive to go with the shield




and a Dual Pulsar Cannon




All of these are printed in Transparent Detail. While I can see that this will be problematic for a mini transformer I ordered I highly recommend this material for accessories and weapons.

As I get more pieces printed I will post them here. This was absolutely amazing to see something go from a completely virtual image on the computer to a real life piece. I can see why the other shapeways folks love the site so much.

I like the arm joint set, i hope they will work on the Army of Darkness figures i have with broken shoulder joints, they are fragile and break easy on those figures.

Btw, I've been rummaging through shapeways lately and found your stuff. Cool to see you going this route. I definitely love the idea of 3d printing.

there are a bunch of guys in the transformers community who are doing great things with it. I had never used any kind of 3D design program before and I needed something to keep me busy since it was too hot to work in my customs shack this summer. I still have a long way to go but I enjoy the process. And lemme tell you, seeing that first piece out of the box was better than christmas. I have another larger order in process, I can't wait.

Shapeways huh? I'll have to look into that. I actually went to school for 3D design, but a 3D printer is out of my price range. Be nice to be able to use my skills for some cool stuff.

That is awesome. The ability to produce items without the need to front the cost of the machinery. I love the look of the items you have on there too. I can't even think about what it would be like trying to sculpt something like that morning star. And they do different colors and even metal. Holy cucka I'm in love.

There's a ton of possibilities, and yeah, it's awesome that they can do other materials than plastic. Still pricey though. Even the cheapest materials run about 2 bucks a cubic centimeter. As materials get cheaper though . . .

Right now I don't see a lot of people jumping on board unless they truly have no other avenue to create something they really want. But for Asphalt it makes all kinds of $ense. He can create an original form the 3D printing to cast copies for a little cheaper and sell them to recoup some of the cost. But man putting that into our hands is dangerous. The things I can do now, er once I learn how to design stuff that is, will be crazy.

Hmmm, what about making vehicle items like all new cannons for Hiss tanks? Flame Cannon Hiss, Laser Cannon Hiss, Railgun Hiss, etc.
